Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the activities of a team to ensure that the organization's payroll is processed accurately and on time. Activities of the team may include accounting, distributing and preparing payments, benefits, taxes, and payroll deductions; calculating overtime, shift payments, sales commissions, and bonuses; maintaining payroll records.
- Coach and mentor team members and assign tasks to ensure that the team’s resources are used effectively. Respond to more complex, escalated inquiries from team members and check the work of others to ensure that the payroll is processed accurately.
- Keeps up to date with legal alterations, relative to labor laws.
- Participates in internal and external audits.
- Responsible for ensuring that Payroll Tax and Garnishment services are delivered in accordance with all Legal and Regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy and data protection policies and regulations with federal, state, and local authorities.
- Coordinates, implements and sets up all payroll and tax data related to opening of new locations, acquisitions or divestures.
- Responsible for Payroll reporting
- Manages set-up and ensures proper processing of third-party deductions, balancing, reconciliation and payment processing.
- Collaborates with Human Resources and other departments to implement system modifications to improve efficiency, document the payroll process and procedures.
- Supports the monthly payroll related general ledger account reconciliations and the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliation.
- Responsible for reviewing and approving salary and hourly payroll reports, registering correct holiday allowance, and performing reconciliations of payroll transactions and payroll related balance accounts.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, and CPP preferred
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in in-house payroll processing in a high volume, multi-state environment, with 5 years Payroll management experience.
- Proficient in federal, state and local employment statutory requirements related to wage & hour, health & welfare, and payroll tax including multi-state payrolls and California pay rules.
- Experience with payroll in unionized facilities preferred.
- Strong accounting systems skills including experience with managing administrative functions and/or system implementation experience.
- Advanced level Excel skills required.
- Experience with UKG & Dimensions Time & Attendance.
- Working knowledge of tax regulation, tax reporting in all states and locals.
- HR experience a plus.
