Position Description:
As a Sr Mechanical Engineer, you will be required to meet with internal clients to determine design requirements, plan and execute the design of mechanical devices, develop and test prototypes, and work closely with other engineering teams to ensure that design specifications are met. To be a successful Sr mechanical design engineer, you should be mathematically and mechanically minded and have strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. A Sr mechanical design engineer should possess detailed knowledge of engineering and design principles and be able to find creative solutions to technical problems.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Using SolidWorks for creating new components and larger systems
- Completing fabrication/assembly drawings
- Designing items to meet cost requirements
- Making concepts a reality
- Conducting research to expose weakness in a design
- Listening to end user requests for items that would improve quality and functionality
- Creating and approving test plans and set ups
- Analyzing data gathered from testing
- Creating BOMs and equipment lists for designed modules
- Supervising technical work of others
- Mentoring less experienced engineers and co-op students
Required Skills/ Abilities:
- Experience working within an ERP system
- Skilled in leading design teams along with creating and managing schedules
- Demonstrated computer skills including 3D CAD Modeling preferably SolidWorks, AutoCad, Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
- 10 years experience with machine design, preferably 5-8 years in the material handling industry
Work Environment This is primarily a desk-based role, requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use. While the role is mainly desk-based, mobility within the office, manufacturing facility and customer sites may be required for meetings and interactions with colleagues.
Physical Requirements Required to stand, walk and sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms for the use of tools to assemble heavy equipment. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 50 pounds. Travel less than 10%
