JOB DESCRIPTION
A competent medical/surgical nurse needs to be flexible about working conditions and care about the extremely diverse needs of different patients. Their primary responsibility is to assess, observe, and speak to patients. Recording details and symptoms of patient medical history and current health. Preparing patients for exams and treatment. Administer medications and treatments, then monitor patients for side effects and reactions.
Per diem shifts available up to 40 hours a week scheduled
DUTIES
- Keeping organized and following patient care plans exactly.
- Administering medications and using medical equipment.
- Communicating clearly and honestly with people from all backgrounds.
- Keeping good records and maintaining patients’ charts.
- Using basic math skills adequate for dosage calculations.
- The ability to work as part of a team in a hospital or post-acute care setting or to work alone as a home visitor.
- Standing for long periods, lifting moderate weight, and working in environments where there may be infectious material.
- And other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) certification- A valid nursing certificate, BSN, or MSN degree from an accredited college or university.
- A valid unencumbered RN license for the State
- Current vaccinations and health clearance certification.
- Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
- ACLS certification.
- Must have previous experience with starting IVs.
- Must have at least 12 months of relevant consecutive acute care experience in this specialty.
- High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with patients during stressful experiences.
- Strong organizational abilities and good communication skills
- The appropriate license to work in their state/county.
- Fluent in English.
