Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential duties and responsibilities include instructing mechanical engineering courses (e.g. Dynamics, System Dynamics and Controls, Mechanics of Machinery, Machine Component Design, Mechatronics, Mechanical Measurement), advising students regarding academic issues, serving the department, school, and university in the form of committee work and as needed, and engaging in ongoing professional development activities. Educational research (ASEE), applied research with undergraduate students or industry supported research in collaboration with Innovation 1, Trine University’s technological outreach center, is encouraged. Additional duties and responsibilities include to:
- Teach the standard faculty load of twelve (12) semester hours per semester or twenty-four (24) semester hours per academic year.
- Post and maintain a regular schedule of at least one office hour per week for each credit hour of instruction.
- Provide instruction (teach class) for the length of time listed in the official schedule.
- Prepare and grade a midterm and a final exam or project for each course.
- Provide each student with a course syllabus.
- Submit absentee and academic deficiency information to Academic Support Services via Trine’s We Care early alert system.
- Assist students experiencing academic difficulties and deficiencies.
- Advise prospective and current students regarding course scheduling and curriculum requirements.
- Providing mentoring and career guidance to students.
- Participate in developing or implementing the department strategic plan, as requested by the department chair.
- Assist the department chair with scheduling and resource allocation issues, curriculum and laboratory development, and the collection, analysis and reporting of assessment data.
- Perform additional duties and completed assignments as prescribed by the respective department chair, school dean, and vice president for academic affairs.
