Manual Machine Tool Operator
6am-2:30pm Mon-Fri
$16-$22 BOE
SUMMARY: Responsible for setting up and operating machine tools and associated equipment
to produce products machined to precision finishes and tolerances including making
adjustments/ offsets to machine to assure that parts remain in tolerance of specification.
- DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- · Sets up and operates manual/ semi-manual machinery and associated equipment to
- produce products machined to precision finishes and tolerances.
- · Inspects and records information required as documentation per work instructions.
- · Proactively identifies equipment issues, communicates information, and makes
- recommendations for correction and/or improvement to appropriate personnel.
- · Identifies potential risks and makes suggestions for correction per company-wide
- Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- · Utilizes appropriate measures to ensure a safe work environment for each individual
- within the work area.
- · Ensures the efficient production and quality of assigned work.
- · Maintains work areas in an acceptable condition of organization and cleanliness in
- accordance with the company 5S initiatives.
- · Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- · High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one year related experience
- and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- · Computer skills required: None.
- · Other skills required:
- o Preferably have some technical/ trade school experience.
- o Must know how to solve basic math calculations.
- o Able to read and understand machining blueprints.
- o Must be able to properly utilize precision measuring equipment and tools
- (including, but not limited to: tape measures, micrometers, calipers, etc.).
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT:
- · Continually required to stand

- · Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
- · Continually required to talk or hear

- · Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
- · While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is
- usually moderate
- · The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
- · Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color
- vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- · Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: Barber Coleman gear hobbers,
- specialized keyway-cutting machines, manual lathes and mills, forklift, overhead cranes,

* Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic work pieces.
* Inspect or measure finished workpieces to determine conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as gauges or micrometers.

* Select machine tooling to be used, using knowledge of machine and production requirements.
* Mount and position tools in machine chucks, spindles, or other tool holding devices, using hand tools.
* Activate machine start-up switches to grind, lap, hone, debar, shear, or cut workpieces, according to specifications.
* Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic workpieces.
* Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, using knowledge of machine operation.
* Brush or spray lubricating compounds on workpieces, or turn valve handles and direct flow of coolant against tools and workpieces.
* Slide spacers between buffs on spindles to set spacing.
* Adjust air cylinders and setting stops to set traverse lengths and feed arm strokes.
* Thread and hand-feed materials through machine cutters or abraders.
* Maintain stocks of machine parts and machining tools.
* Compute machine indexings and settings for specified dimensions and base reference points.
* Repair or replace machine parts, using hand tools, or notify engineering personnel when corrective action is required.
* Lift and position workpieces, manually or with hoists, and secure them in hoppers or on machine tables, faceplates, or chucks, using clamps.
