- POSITION SUMMARY
- The Flight Paramedic practices in accordance with philosophy, policies, procedures and standards of the hospital; functions within the guidelines of the protocols for the transport program that are reviewed and agreed on by medical and nursing directors.
- The Flight Paramedic functions include the identification, planning, implementation and evaluation of emergency care for acutely ill neonates, pediatrics and adults in collaboration with their flight partner and the medical control physician. This person is responsible for obtaining pertinent medical histories, performing physical examinations and formulating differential diagnoses and care management plans. Responsibilities include performing necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated for identification and management of problems.
- Also, important is the need to provide family centered care, including psychosocial support, education and transfer planning in conjunction with referral staff.
- Represents the hospital to health care professionals in referring hospitals.
- Maintains effective communication with referral staff and families.
- Initiates and participates in educational, research, professional and organizational activities that contribute to improving patient care, the transport program operation and the individuals own professional development.
- The paramedic’s primary responsibility is a flight team member on Fixed Wing ambulance transports.
- The Flight Paramedic may participate in the role of SIM ND Paramedic Educator if approved and trained by UND SIM ND Program Director.

- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Licenses and Certifications Required
- North Dakota Paramedic registration sent in to North Dakota EMS within 30 days of hire
- Must be a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) licensed paramedic at time of hire
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at time of hire
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within first year of hire
- Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) preferred
- North Dakota Paramedic registration sent in to North Dakota EMS within 30 days of hire
- Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or GED strongly preferred
- High school diploma or GED strongly preferred
- Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' experience in EMS preferred
- Minimum 2 years' experience in EMS preferred
- Special Skills or Training Requirements
- Membership in professional organization is desirable
- Communication skills, manual dexterity, ability to perform nursing skills
