GENERAL DEFINITION AND SCOPE OF JOB:
A Medical Assistant for Physician Practices performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. A Medical Assistant should not be confused with Physician Assistants, who examine, diagnose, and treat patients under the direct supervision of a physician.
JOB STATUS: Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks
What are the Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements?
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Formal Medical Assistant Training
- LPN or Paramedic
- RMA or CMA. Current credential or licensure or receipt of said certification or licensure within first 3 months of employment
- Current BLS Certification
What are the Job Responsibilities?
- Answer phones and schedule appointments
- Update Electronic Medical Record
- Arrange labs and any ordered testing
- Performs patient in-take (including: vital signs, medical histories, updating active medication list,
reconciling patient medication lists, and verifying that all information is updated in the electronic
medical record) - Perform EKG’s when ordered
- Preparing patients for examination, and preparing equipment and rooms for procedures/examinations
- Performs CLIA waived lab testing when ordered
- Hands supplies or instruments to the physician during procedures/examinations
- Drawing blood, culture specimen collection and performing routine urine tests and complete lab requisitions
- Administers medications/vaccines as directed by the physician
- Ensures proper stocking of exam rooms/supplies
- Maintains an accounting of instrument inventory (including putting them away in proper location
daily) - Ordering supplies
- Phone triage, and notification of patients of their test results as directed by physician.
- Manage prescription refill line by sending electronic tasks, via electronic health record to the appropriate provider.

- Must respect the confidential nature of medical information.
- Clinical duties require a reasonable level of manual dexterity, mobility and visual acuity.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
- Ability to withstand long periods of standing
- Must be flexible, able to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
while maintaining organization and professionalism. - Able to work a computer (Microsoft, Excel, and Outlook), printer, copier, fax machine and other
office equipment. - Medical Assistants interact with the public; therefore, they must be neat and well groomed and have
a courteous, positive, pleasant manner. - Must be able to put patients at ease and explain physicians’ instructions.
