Evening ShiftDescription:
Under the general supervision of a professional nurse and according to established procedures and
guidelines, provides psychiatric nursing care at the para-professional level. Participates in group
therapy sessions, one-on-one interactions, discharge planning and crises intervention.
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Analytical ability necessary to assess (according to defined signs and symptoms) patients immediate psychological status and determine need to request professional assistance; ability to recommend alterations to treatments and the need for social services.
2. Interpersonal skill to almost constantly interact with disturbed patients and their families; ability to elicit information from these persons and encourage their participation in treatment activities and open communications.
3. Physical ability for almost constant standing and walking .
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE/REGISTRATION:
1. Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of high school with college level training in behavioral science, and
2. one to three months of experience in order to a) acquire a fundamental knowledge of psycho-social problems and appropriate responses, b) acquire a thorough knowledge of pertinent department policies and procedures for psychiatric patient care, c) learn assigned duties, and d) acquire suitable interpersonal skills.
