GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
The Pharmacy Technician assists Pharmacists in pharmaceutical preparation, distribution and the record keeping functions in the delivery of pharmaceutical supplies to patients of all ages in accordance with department policies and procedures.
This is a PRN opportunity providing a Pharmacy Tech the opportunity to have flexible scheduling for school or work-life balance.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate or equivalent. Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Current certification as a pharmacy tech is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Assists the Pharmacist in providing effective drug distribution services to all patients served by the Department of Pharmacy Services. Proficient in all areas of the Pharmacy. Is aware of the workload in each area and is willing and able to help when needed. Counts package and label unit doses for inspection by Pharmacist. Provides medication service to other departments including Pyxis stock, floor stock and supplies.
Coordinates the work flow of the IV room and is knowledgeable in the mixing of chemotherapy, large volume parenterals, antibiotics, TPN, syringes and drips. Uses good sterile technique when preparing IV admixtures. Keeps work areas clean inside and outside the hood. Assists the Pharmacist in training Pharmacy Technician Trainees in the day-to-day duties of Pharmacy Technicians as assigned by the Director. Excellent mathematical skills required for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceuticals; possess a basic understanding of hospital pharmacy drug distribution systems including unit dose, IV additive and floor stock distribution methods. Excellent oral and written communication skills for routine interaction with hospital staff, patients and visitors.
