Managerial/Supervisory Scope: This position works under the direction and supervision of the Site Director.
Basic Function: The Group Worker is responsible for planning and implementing programming for after school age children. The Group Worker must ensure the development and safety of children in accordance with relevant federal, and state legislation and policies. The Daycare Worker will be respectful of children and parents, and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained.
Duties and Responsibilities Percent of Time
Program Support
- Support plans of effective program to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs
of each child enrolled.
- Support children’s safety through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper
maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of emergency procedures.
- Work as member of team to ensure continuity of children’s care, curriculum and program
quality.
- Supervise group(s) of children and activities both inside and outside of the classroom/designated
area.
- Participate and support centers efforts to recruit and enroll new children and families.
Program Implementation
- Develop educational, cultural and social programs and activities appropriate for the needs of the
children in the program
- Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of
the children in the program. Ensure adequate equipment and safety for all activities.
- Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
- Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities and report on outcome based program
measures.
- Establish and maintain policies, procedures and guidelines including acceptable disciplinary
policies.
- Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress
- Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential client files
- Plan, implement and maintain emergency procedures including practice drills on a regular basis

Requirements: This position requires at least an Associate Degree in social work, early childhood or related field. The incumbent must possess proficient knowledge in child development theories and practices, safe and appropriate activities for children, relevant legislation, policies and procedures as prescribed by governing agencies. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and listening communications skills, timely analytical, problem solving and decision making skills and cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Work Schedule: The Group Worker shall generally work twenty (20) to twenty-four (24) hours each week in accordance with the centers staffing needs.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The incumbent will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility, and may move throughout the community with children.

Working Condition: This job operates in a child care environment and interacts with children in early learning classrooms on a daily basis.
