What are the responsibilities and job description for the Builder position at TRINITY?
Job Title: Product Builder
Qualifications:
Woodworking knowledge and experience is preferred, but not required. Product Builders must be willing to use power tools and be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Essential Functions:
Product builders spent most of their time cutting wood and building products. Once a product is built, it is prepped by the builder to be finished and boxed, painted, or stained. This preparation process often requires rigorous and detailed sanding, application of wood filler, and pilot holes for hanging or hardware installation.
The tools most often used by Product Builders include, but are not limited to:
- Compound miter saw
- Pneumatic nail gun
- Pneumatic staple gun
- Random orbital sander
- Table saw
- Router
- Shaper
- Drill
- Drill press
- Bandsaw
- Kreg Jig
Product Finishers are typically responsible for painting, staining, and boxing. However, Product Builders are expected to become familiar with that process and be willing to transition into that role as needed.
Product Builders are also responsible to help with many of the side tasks that help the shop run smoothly. Such tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Sweeping and cleaning the shop
- Unloading and organizing materials
- Basic tool maintenance
- Cleaning dust collector filter
- Building jigs to increase production speed
- Emptying Trash
Product Builders must learn and remember how to build each item so that if asked to build a certain SKU, they are able to do so. Training and assistance is available for the first few times a particular SKU is built. Afterwards builders are expected to be able to build products without assistance or instruction.
Product Builders will excel in their role by increasing their speed of production without sacrificing quality. This requires some creativity and willingness to create tools, jigs, and methods that increase speed.
Pay:
Starting pay for this position is currently $15.50/hour with a performance review and an opportunity for a raise after 3 months.
Hours and Location:
The location of the shop is at 5880 SH 34 South, Quinlan, TX 75474
Shop hours are 7:00AM – 3:30PM Monday – Friday.
Dress Code:
Shoes or boots that are comfortable and have cushion are recommended as product builders spend most of the day on their feet. Closed toes shoes are required, but additional protection such as steel toes are not required. Clothing should be chosen for comfort and safety. Most builders wear shorts or jeans with t-shirts in the warm months and jeans with long sleeve shirts and coats in the cooler months.
Work Environment:
The culture of the shop is very casual. We expect employees in this role to stay focused and maintain high levels of production, but an experienced builder will go for weeks without receiving any specific instruction or correction on how to do his/her job. Builders often listen to their own music while working. The shop we use has concrete floors with fatigue pads. Space heaters and fans are available, but we do not use central heat and air. The shop is noisy with air compressors, dust collectors, and power tools running for most of the day.
