The following are the responsibilities, expectations and requirments of the Assistant Project Management position:
PURPOSE
To assist the project team to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required performance and quality standards demanded by the project and TRU.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist in the creation and subsequent monitoring and updating of a detailed schedule, short term look-a-head schedule and weekly plan.
- Update and monitor against Key Dates Schedule.
- Update and monitor submittals, transmittals etc.
- Assist in the monitoring of the schedule constraints and subsequent action plan and advise the project manager of exceptions.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders: Designers; Factory manager(s); Superintendent ; Suppliers and colleagues to ensure promises and expectations are met.
- Manage the logistics of materials, plant and waste in line with project requirements.
- Collaboration with the field for information needed to fulfill the field tasks.
- Create and submit QC packages in collaboration with the project team.
- Support the Project Manager, with administrative tasks, cost control, enquiries, etc.
- Look for cost-effective solutions to increase profit margin by negotiating prices for subcontractors and materials.
- Assist the project manager in cost to complete forecast to ensure accuracy on period and cost.
- Place and expedite orders in line with project requirements.
- Create sustainable relationships with our supply chain partners.
- Assist the finance department with clearing “blocked” invoices.
- Document control.
- Responsible to take notes from internal/external meetings, and submit to the team
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY & CONTROLS
- Capacity planning and monitoring – design, procurement, fabrication and labor.
- Cost control on projects typically of value between $1M-$12M.
- Project monitoring.
- Work within TRU policies and procedures.
- Can purchase without management approval to a value of $250
SPECIAL FACTORS
- Work in collaboration with the client and TRU supply chain.
- Relationships with client, suppliers and subcontractors can be highly adversarial with significant legal/contractual implications.
- Projects are rarely implemented as originally envisaged due to changes by client and/or site complexities.
- Projects are highly custom made by nature and require close coordination.
- Site attendance to facilitate the project team as and when required.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience of working for a specialist building envelope sub-contractor in a coordination or technical role. Typical 5 years of experience.
- Broad technical and industry knowledge.
- Broad knowledge of the façade/envelope industry.
- Broad planning experience. Ideally be able to professionally plan a project using appropriate software e.g. MS Project
- Broad buying and negotiation experience.
- Financial awareness/understanding, cost control and forecasting.
- Manage supply chain partners effectively and efficiently.
- Computer skills at a higher level, with a good understanding of 4 or 5 of the following: Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, Schucal, Autocad.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
