What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Planogrammer position at True Value?
The Sr Planogrammer for the Strategic Alliance Accounts (SAA) key accounts is required to handle complex assortments across multiple home improvement industry categories and must possess in-depth knowledge across all departments. This role is responsible for working with key customers to identify innovative solutions that simplify the entire planogramming process. Keeping updated on the latest software and equipment technology as well as leading edge methods in the art and science of planogramming. Responsible for creating new design techniques to support SAA retailer needs that will result in increased sales and margin for True Value and the retailer. Must demonstrate strong leadership. Must be proficient in analyzing and interpreting product performance data and be able to educate customers and account managers to create right size planograms for maximum production.
Responsibilities (May perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).
- Coaches the key customers on how to analyze performance data to identify opportunities to maximize sales, inventory turns, and gross margins within defined categories and apply the analytical results to establish the right breadth, depth, and mix of merchandise needed to produce profitable results at retail and wholesale. Educates retailers on how to employ the rules of merchandise presentation at department and store level to ensure the correct product and category adjacencies for a continuous flow presentation. This includes incorporating standard concepts and techniques such as vertical merchandising and blocking to visually lead the consumer through the category strategy and price point progression as well as innovative techniques that will maximize space and produce results. Must be able to implement all of the above across multiple categories.
- Must possess comprehensive product knowledge across multiple home improvement categories and must understand item function as well as product roles. Must be able to make decisions in more complex situations regarding the selection of items and their positioning within an assortment including replacements that are appropriate to drive comparable sales and gross margin.
- Responsible for keeping up on latest software technology and equipment. Responsible for creating product images used in the planogram process. Must understand how to apply photographic and lighting techniques that will produce superior product images. Responsible for establishing working partnerships with vendors, retailers, and associates to keep all planogram processes on schedule. This includes acquiring correct products for imaging, mocking up packaging, and keeping all processes moving forward.
- Execute new and proven merchandising strategies that apply to multiple categories that will assist in growing sales and margin. Must possess executable knowledge across multiple categories to create presentations to produce maximum results. Must research industry competitors to keep True Value on the leading edge of contemporary planogram presentation strategies and design that include space optimization techniques for various size environments and new display methodologies.
- Develops and delivers reporting needed to identifying changes in planogram and communication with Account Manager and SAA Retailers, cross reference of changes, proposals for changes & improvement,
- Manages, obtains, monitors, and processes status date for all assigned projects for assigned accounts to ensure project is on time to meet the deliverable.
- Assists in the planning and execution of successful Reunions for the team.
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5-7 years of experience, preferably in Merchandising, Retail, or similar industry.
• Knowledge of space planning software required, preferably JDA.
• Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Work Environment:
• The environment is a mix between office, display area and warehouse and will require working at headquarters and other locations, as needed.
• The work requires the travel to semi-annual conventions at various locations around the country.
• The work is sometimes active and physical in nature and requires normal accessibility to all work sites required of the position. The position may require extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• The position is occasionally working in areas where air conditioning is unavailable and may be exposed to chemicals that are routinely present in the Company’s warehouse facilities.
