Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a Patent Attorney to support TrueBinding’s up-and-coming projects. This role is expected to organize and manage all IP disclosures, diligence exercises, patent landscape reviews, and international patent portfolios and filings. You will serve as the primary point of contact within the organization for internal legal counsel and help coordinate between groups within the company and outside legal counsel when needed. While collaborating with outside counsel and internal groups, you will help identify innovations for protection by patents, while avoiding infringement of any valid third-party patents.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with R&D personnel to perform comprehensive searches of patent databases for invalidity, patentability, landscape, licensing, litigation risks, and freedom to operate.
- Ensure detailed instructions is provided to researchers and inventors regarding legal requirements of a patentable invention. Assists in constructions of extensive invention disclosures.
- Perform extensive critical reviews of patents, patent applications, patent amendments, patent opinions and other patent-related documents for technical accuracy and full protection of company inventions.
- Lead communication between researchers and outside patent counsel; collaborate with outside patent counsel and paralegals to draft and prosecute patent applications.
- Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the business, including the research being conducted, products being developed or licensed/acquired, the currently offered commercial products and existing IP portfolio.
- Attend and participate in Legal (with outside counsel when necessary), R&D and business meetings related to such activities.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science such as Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or related field of study. PhD preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of post-Juris Doctor (J.D.) experience as a patent attorney in a firm or biotech/pharmaceutical industry and filing/prosecuting patent cases.
- Must have passed the U.S.P.T.O patent bar with an active registration number.
- Excellent organizational, interdependent partnering, and project management skills.
- Experience in therapeutics highly desired; antibodies preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $250,000.00 - $300,000.00 per year
