What are the responsibilities and job description for the Access Transport Technician position at TrueNet Communications?
The Access Transport Technician is responsible for provisioning and/or configuring aggregate devices, routers, optical access, and/or DWDM equipment that carries video, data, and/or telephony traffic. Utilizes various applications for implementation, service, test, and acceptance (Remedy, NetSmart, NSP, Preside, Granite, Mint, Secure CRT) at customer sites of increased complexity. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.)
Essential Position Functions:
- With limited supervision, prepares, configures, installs, and provisions Voice, Ethernet and SONET transport equipment for single and multiple dwelling business locations that will support complex services.
- Inserts access transport equipment into fiber ring.
- Performs access transport equipment maintenance support to include changes, upgrades, and migrations, disconnects, decommissions, preparation and configuration in support of fulfillment activities.
- Works with contractors/vendors to ensure equipment is installed and operating properly.
- Creates, updates, and closes Remedy tickets and coordinates with change control as needed.
- Coordinates with provisioning to verify/finalize customer acceptance of service, confirming service is working as expected, to initiate billing.
- Ensures quality of processes, programs, and customer satisfaction.
- Complies with all safety procedures and policies.
- Performs end-to-end provisioning of customer circuits as designed in an accompanying work package from engineering.
- Performs all final circuit provisioning and configuration of device and intermediate cross-connects.
- Ensures appropriate iOS upgrade is applied.
- Performs basic functional testing of equipment to eliminate out-of-box failures.
- Packages equipment per work order in preparation for installation.
- Works with customer on integration of complex circuits such as BGP, EPLAN, EVPLAN, etc.
- Assists with initial turn-up of CPE equipment.
- Tests and verifies services in conjunction with the install team.
- This position may be required to work shifts and/or provide 24/7 coverage to meet customer demands.
- SHOUT Notification Tech Ops – Engineering (Alcatel-Lucent SAM, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, RAMP) (Critical Level).
- Other duties as required.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- AA/AS or Technical certification in related discipline strongly desired (e.g., Technical Operations).
- Cisco certification – CCNA or CCNP referred.
- 2 or more years of experience preferred in related field (e.g., technical support, installation, and maintenance).
- 2 or more years of experience working with IP Ethernet, SONET, DWDM, DOCSIS, Video and telephone technologies.
- Requires working knowledge and experience with Granite and Mint.
- 2 or more years of experience specifically in provisioning and troubleshooting layer II and III networks for commercial customers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of performance testing and test equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout the organization.
- Must have intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
- Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer.
- Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills.
- Must be able to work alone, and with a team.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must have a valid state driver’s license.
