What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Laborer position at TrueNet Communications?
The primary responsibilities of Construction Laborer perform a wide variety of manual duties in support of telecommunications construction. This role performs tasks involving physical labor on job sites and light/heavy construction projects. Maintain control of outside plant (OSP)/Inside plant (ISP) activities surrounding the assigned work area(s). Support project timelines, conduct inspections, designing and providing accurate as-builts for projects. Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.)
Essential Position Functions:
- Able to utilize a variety of hand tools, operate power tools and equipment to perform outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) utility construction.
- Able to dig trenches (by hand or power), clean up rubble and debris, backfill excavations, and/or compact earth to grade specifications, and remove waste materials.
- Load and unload materials, machinery, and tools at appropriate locations.
- Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in road, utility easement and private property environments to prepare worksite for telecommunications construction activities.
- Able to place cabinets, hand holes and manholes.
- Able to place conduits and (push/pull) fiber and coax cables.
- Able to operate commercial vehicles and pull a variety of trailers.
- Able to recognize underground and aerial utilities and eliminate potential hazards for construction work to be completed.
- Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
- Ability to safely utilize light/heavy underground excavation equipment, access manholes, hand holes, trenches, and large/small excavations.
- Ensure that all work considers the safety of the customer and public and compliance with all governmental orders.
- Use of hand tools, ladders, and equipment to assist in the completion of an assigned project.
- Daily documentation of work performed, material usage, and other record keeping tasks.
- Daily timekeeping required.
- Perform work following established and TrueNet mandated Safety and Health guidelines.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and effectively with little to no supervision.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1 years of telecommunication construction experience is preferred.
- Ability to use hand and power tools required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license (CDL is preferred).
- Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Must have basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
- Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer.
- Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills.
- Must be able to work alone, and with a team.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.

- Carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Working on aerial lifts, ladders, at heights up to 40 feet.
- Must be able to work in loud, noise-filled, environment out in the field.
- The position requires working independently, as well as part of a team.
- This position requires verbal and face-to-face contact with others daily.
- This position requires use of all general office equipment.
