ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job.  Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below.  Specific activities may change from time to time. 
1.Responsible for the installation, configuration and production turnover of Truist Database Services and servers. 

2.Provides requirement analysis and evaluations for proposed data management software products and solutions.  Develops or directs the development of utilities used for the monitoring, tuning and analysis of database systems. 

3.Provide and assist with the creation of database(s), database schema and support for logical model with developments. 

4.Maintain documentation, backup and recovery procedure for the physical and logical databases. Includes develop, monitor and maintaining backup and recovery solutions.

5.Assist with application developers, business users and project managers in the development of user access requirements, logical and physical database design, and disaster recovery as needed.

Assist with review of vendor configurations and patches adhering to best practices where allowed.

6.Provide technical writings and detailed documentation on technology standards and procedures.

7.Good understating of architecture principles within system and database technologies.

8.Ability to work with engineers groups on OS settings and recommendations.

9.Work with disk storage management group to determine appropriate disk platform and disk allocation configuration to support desired physical design and performance.

10.Independently be able to provide performance measures of transactional databases, identifying bottlenecks, disk analysis and other metrics to provide tuning recommendations.

11.Providing engineering support for industry best of breed applications for management of database systems and related security functions identifying risk.

12.Ability to make decisions for implementation, build and configuration for RDBMS and integration into the environment.  Provide both solution blocks low -level designs for database systems .

13.Support in developing and supporting automation solutions. 

Skills and Competencies

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Work closely with Production Engineering to maintain a product roadmap aligned with the business needs of Truist Data and Technology Services and appropriate team leads.
  • Perform database reviews with Operations peer contacts for evergreen efforts and product changes or releases.
  • Research and maintain a current understanding of available and evolving RDBMS and Database Service technology trends.

Project Execution and Service Design

  • Perform project initiation activities including general requirements gathering and documentation, contributing in project status meetings and estimation activities with the Truist Estimation team.
  • Identify and communicate project complications or roadblocks in a manner to reduce delays to original project timelines.
  • Review basic High Level & Low Level designs documents using Microsoft Visio for each project and support the adherence to Database best practices.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal Application, Operating systems, Data and Technology Services teams.

Tactical Operational Support & Technical Planning

  • Familiarity with the engineering lifecycle for Databases including capacity planning, disaster recovery, backup & restore, and other related technical requirements in the below product areas.
  • Proficient understanding and senior experience with the installation and configuration for the below database product areas.
  • Product Areas:
    • Operating Systems/Databases
      • Microsoft Windows Server 2014, 2016, and 2019
      • Microsoft SQL Server  2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019
      • SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, familiarity with NLB’s for SSRS, and other technologies.
    • Areas of proficiencies:
      • Installation upgrade/patching
      • Create, manage, and maintain database in IaaS and PaaS
      • Solid SQL and procedural language skills with ability to tune plans
      • Intermediate administration and object creation and management
      • Backup and Recovery
      • Solid understanding of High Availability – Configure, install and support Always-On, mirroring, log shipping etc.
      • Solid understanding of Disaster Recovery and Replication with implementation skills.  Clustering and high availability understanding and implementation skills. This includes Always-On.
      • Configuration and tuning capabilities that includes RDBMS, IO and metric gathering.
      • Solid data movement experience.
      • Analysis and Troubleshooting
      • Monitoring, Trending and Tracking
      • Scripting capabilities within the OS to assist with automation and gathering metrics for analysis.
      • Azure principles and knowledge preferred
      • Proficient skills with PowerShell and T-SQL
      • Security and Risk Awareness.  Capability to ready vendor security bulletins and correlate to enterprise environment.
      • OS Knowledge and basic troubleshooting capabilities
  • Collaborate and partner with peer teams to identify risk and security gaps and concerns and develop remediation plans.
  • Provide excellent customer service, oral and written communication within a business and technical context.
  • Team-oriented interpersonal skills.  Ability to work independently or part of team.
  • Ability to plan, organizes, troubleshoot and execute with strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to cooperate with other related work teams across geographically dispersed locations


QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in development or application support or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
2. In- depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices.
3. Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function.
4. Ability to plan and manage projects.
5. Ability to solve complex problems by applying best practices.
6. Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates.
7. Ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree and six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
2. Banking or financial services experience.
