LAWRENCE PUBLIC SCHOOLS - 237 Essex Street, Lawrence, MA 01840 - (978) 975-5905 JOB DESCRIPTION Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) REPORTS TO: Student Support Services Director(s) SUMMARY: The role of the board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) is critical in the treatment or management of behavioral, emotional, and developmental disorders. Behavior analysis is the study of how humans learn and behave in social settings. Those who work with people to craft learning plans and enact therapy for emotional or cognitive disabilities apply the data accumulated by the experimental observation and research branch of the discipline. The board certified behavior analyst is a graduate level distinction. BCBAs can conduct observations, craft action plans with students and families. BCBAs must re-certify their skills at regular intervals and attain continuing education to update their practice with current research. DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION INLCUDE: Provide consultative BCBA services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Develop materials and provide resources for and provide professional learning to administrators, educators, para-educators and parents/guardians in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) and and/or other evidence-based methodologies related to addressing the needs of students with behavior difficulties and autism. Plan and oversee the development and implementation of classroom and individual programs related to instruction using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and TEACCH for students with autism and other disabilities. Provide functional behavioral assessments for individual students with autism spectrum disorders. Collect data and prepare a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting case history, assessments, and treatment decisions. Create and assist District staff with the development and implementation of behavior plans, ABA programs and other appropriate programs for students with Autism and/or other disabilities that present behavior/learning challenges. Other Functions Supervise BCBA candidates within the Lawrence Public School District, as appropriate. Supervise Registered Behavior Technicians within the Lawrence Public School District as needed. Travel from site to site and/or performs necessary school visits for the purpose of providing direct treatment, consultation, and collaboration for students and families. Perform related duties as assigned. .
