What are the responsibilities and job description for the Core+ Paraeducator position at TrulyHired?

DEFINITION OF POSITION:Under the direction of the Building Principal and Core Teacher, serve as a paraeducator assisting with math, reading, reading readiness and writing skills, and provide support services to students who demonstrate disruptive classroom behaviors at the elementary level. A change in assignment and/or location may occur based on student specific needs and variances in school enrollment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completed at least 2 years of study (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits) at an institution of higher education OR obtained an associate's (or higher) degree OR completed one of the following: ETS ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher, Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, or Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
  • Evidence of in-service training and/or successful experience working with elementary level students
  • Clerical and computer skills to record data, prepare progress reports, type reports, complete forms, answer emails, etc.
  • Instructional skills in the content areas of math, reading, and writing
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with elementary level students in an instructional setting
  • Experience and/or training in administering the DIBELS reading assessments
  • Experience/training in mathematics, reading readiness, reading and writing
  • Experience with various progress monitoring tools
  • Experience working with students who demonstrate disruptive behaviors
  • Training or experience using a variety of evidence-based reading and math curriculum
  • Behavior management training
ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

Depending upon individual assignment, the paraeducator may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
  • Assist in creating relationships and learning environments conducive to learning with young students
  • Provide encouragement, reinforcement and achievement of educational objectives and goals defined by certificated staff; assist in the administration of objective tests or other measurements
  • Under the guidance of the certified staff, assist in delivery of educational services to students in reading, reading readiness, writing, behavior and math including assessment, planning, and management of student records and materials
  • Communicate with certificated staff concerning individual student progress; adjust methods to meet the needs of a wide variety of students; consult with certificated staff concerning remediation or enrichment activities
  • Assist certificated staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, assignments and other records for assessment of student progress
  • Instruct academically "at risk" students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities to promote student understanding of materials presented
  • Provide support services to students who demonstrate disruptive behaviors
  • Provide small group instruction in the areas of math and reading to a variety of different grade levels
  • Administer the DIBELS assessment several times per year as a member of the building assessment team
  • Monitor student progress and regularly provide progress reports for classroom teachers
  • As part of the Core team, meet regularly with classroom teachers to collaborate and discuss student progress
  • Work collaboratively to support the classroom, school wide and Core programs; encourage parent participation in program activities
  • Work effectively with elementary-age learners
  • Utilize clerical skills for the keeping of data, typing of reports, completing reports, etc.
  • Work with students using computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet and email
  • Self-directed and able to carry out directions from classroom teachers independently
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies, etc.)
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality consistent with district ethical guidelines
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
  • Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the school principal or assigned administrator; receives guidance from certificated staff.

MENTAL DEMANDS:


May experience frequent interruptions; required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities; required to deal with a wide range of physical or emotional disabilities; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.

TERMS OF CONTRACT:
  • Salary: General Paraeducator: $19.75 - $23.55/hour
  • Length of Contract: 180 days/year plus two additional district directed days
  • Benefits/Leaves: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Paraeducators Association (PPA) and the Pullman School District (PPA Bargaining Agreement).
