About Stoneham Preschool
Stoneham Integrated Preschool provides a warm and playful atmosphere for children aged 3 and 4 years old. The play-based program is guided by the belief that young children learn through play.
The current Preschool classrooms are spread throughout the school district and housed across three elementary schools. It is anticipated that (8) Preschool Classrooms will be opening in September, 2024 as part of Stoneham High School's 218-million-dollar construction project. We envision a bright and spacious preschool program surrounded by a lovely play-yard, with its own separate entry and security from the main high school building. Another part of the path forward for our growing Preschool Program is to further develop partnerships in the community, with parents, and with the high school child study program. We anticipate these partnerships will benefit the entire school community.
This fall, due to an increase in enrollment, there will be (10) Preschool classrooms which is a combination of both integrated classes, as well as program classes (RISE Programs).
About the Position of Director
The Director of Stoneham Preschool manages all aspects of the preschool from assisting with budget management and hiring to helping children put on snow gear. The ability to mix business responsibilities and day-to-day tasks is key to success in this position. The Director of Stoneham Preschool should be an experienced and compassionate professional who embraces the unique culture of the school while providing the structure that will be the backbone for continued growth.

Selected job duties and responsibilities include:
- School Administration: assist with the management and implementation of the budget, support, supervise, and evaluate all staff, oversee Massachusetts EEC licensing, and any other business needs.
- Implement and maintain full compliance of special education needs of students.
- Maintain records for institutional memory and guide incoming parents on the transition to Preschool and Special Education Services.
- Attend administrative meetings and work as a liaison between the community, Early Intervention, and staff. Be present for and help with community events. Implement procedures for screening and registration and maintain wait lists as necessary.
- Staff Supervision and Evaluation: provide feedback to teachers via staff meetings and Supervision and Evaluation process as outlined by the Massachusetts Dept. of Education. Provide guidance for professional development and licensing requirements.
- Curriculum Development: guide teachers in the development and implementation of play-based and formal Massachusetts curriculum frameworks.
- Recruitment and Enrollment: manage publicity and provide an active on-line presence for the school in order to maintain steady enrollment.
- Hands-on Support: be actively involved in day-to-day tasks around the schoolhouse and ready to jump in to help teachers as needed during the day.
Desired Core Competencies and Qualifications:
- EEC Director I Certification (or ability to obtain before September 2023).
- Must Possess DESE license as a Special Education Administrator (or ability to obtain before September 2023).
- Early Childhood DESE License required.
- Ability to communicate clearly with all members of the school community, including the office of Special Education/Special Education Director, staff, families, and Superintendent of Schools and School Board.
- Liaise effectively between these entities.
- Computer literacy, including a working knowledge of social media for promotion of the program. Familiarity with QuickBooks is ideal.
- Experience with and knowledge of Massachusetts EEC licensing guidelines and professional development expectations.
- A love for preschool aged children and deep understanding of their social-emotional and academic development.
- Desire to create a supportive atmosphere for all school community members, including, but not limited to, age-appropriate emotional support for students, professional help to staff, and practical guidance to families.
- 3 - 5 years' experience in early childhood education as a lead teacher (ideally with administrator experience).
