SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
- The Middle School Building Level Robotics Coach will be responsible for all aspects of the Middle School Robotics Team, including recruitment, practices, and at least two (2) annual NLCS-hosted tournaments and one (1) annual NLCS-hosted scrimmage.
- Coaches will be responsible to coordinate practices from September - March.
- Coaches will be required to have at least one (1) practice a week that lasts 1-2 hours long after school.
- Coaches will be required to supply practice and scrimmage schedules to their building administrator.
- Coaches will notify the school's Head Cook with practice dates, so the Head Cook can order after school snacks for the teams.
- Coaches will be required to be at all NLCS-hosted scrimmages and tournaments, which will always be on a Saturday.
- Coaches will be required to register with REC, and may be asked to submit to a background check.
- Coaches will coordinate with both Middle School Robotics concerning practices, scrimmages.
- Coaches will be responsible for ordering team t-shirts.
- Coaches will communicate with the Robotics Team Coordinator concerning registration fees, tournament registrations and fees, robot supplies, field elements, and other questions.
- Coaches will maintain 4-5 students per robot.
- Coaches will recruit students based on interest and the number of available spots.
- VEX Robotics is designed to be a student-led program. Coaches will act as a guide and give students an opportunity to build robotics and engineering design process skills.
- Coaches will be required to attend any meetings hosted by the NLCS Robotics Team Coordinator
- The Robotics Coach will assist students with developing real-world skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and problem solving. Students will learn about robotics, coding, and the engineering design process.
- Qualified applicants should have a strong interest in STEM education.
- Extensive background and knowledge in robotics is not necessary to be an effective coach.
- Training for new coaches will be supplied training by the Robotics Team Coordinator.
- Ability to trouble-shoot and guide students with critical thinking skills.
- Previous robotics experience not required.
- Effective management of multi-age groups of students.
- Experience with multiple forms of technology.
