ESL Teacher

Role: As the ESL Teacher, you will provide sheltered instruction in content classes, as well as lead classes for multilingual learners. You will also support your students with appropriate language interventions while ensuring that your students are receiving grade level standards-aligned instruction. Opportunity: You will have the opportunity to support some of the most resilient students on their pathway to graduation and beyond within a small setting. There is an opportunity to build strong relationships with both your students and their families. Team: You will work alongside other content teachers, as well as the other ESL teachers in the school. You will collaborate with the teachers you support each week to plan interventions and support for your students. You will meet with your team each week in a professional learning community for professional development, to talk about student work, and to support instruction. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Required/ Master's Degree preferred; Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in ESL or ability to obtain license requirements; Current Authorization to work in the United States. Salary and benefits in accordance with the Lawrence Teachers Union contract and LPS policy. Who We Are: The High School Learning Center (HLC) works with over-aged and under-credited students in the Lawrence Public Schools. We are an autonomous school located at 1 Parker Street Lawrence, Ma. HLC offers various pathways to graduation. Students at HLC can be enrolled full time or part time, have in-person classes, hybrid or online classes, or a flexible schedule personalized to meet their individual needs. Many of our classes are of a small size (6-10 students), allowing the opportunity for students and staff to build strong relationships.
