Minimum Qualifications

FBI and Washington State Patrol background clearance required.

- Post high school training in child development and related training desired.
- Ability to handle students with behavioral and physical handicapping conditions. Candidate must be willing to be trained in behavioral management strategies specifically designed for this student.
- Physical ability to perform required duties which may include lifting and positioning students in and out of a vehicle, wheelchair, therapy equipment, etc.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the general public.
- Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and English usage.
- General knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment, and ability to operate standard office equipment including computers, fax machine, and photocopier.
- Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred.
- Assists teachers in the daily management, organization, monitoring, and safety of students; supervises recess and lunch periods, field trips, locker rooms, study and detention rooms, and student arrival/departure.
- Collects and prepares instructional and non-instructional materials as directed; assembles worksheets, lessons, art supplies, and other materials; creates and posts bulletin boards; corrects worksheets, quizzes, and assignments.
- Supervises and conducts individuals and small groups in educational, creative, and structured play activities; assists with class work and assignments; tutors and monitors student activities in the classroom and special sessions.
- Monitors student behavior and progress, and shares observations with teacher and other professional staff; may participate in parent-teacher conferences. Assists teachers in preparation of student work contracts and programs.
- May be required to perform services which maintain personal hygiene of students, such as toileting, diapering and dressing. Monitors student health. May be required to assist with adaptive/medical equipment to include tube feeding and catheterization, provide emergency first aide as necessary, lifting of students and other medical assistance.
- Assists in administering district, state and national tests; maintains diagnostic and test data for teacher; maintains and updates student records, class lists, attendance and other data. Monitors administration of individual academic assessment evaluation.
- Performs equipment and supply inventories; prepares orders, materials as necessary.
- Answers telephones, takes messages, processes and distributes forms, correspondence, worksheets, tests, and schedules by using office machines such as a typewriter, computer, photocopier, and other standard office equipment.
- Maintains files and records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
