The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care (PACC) at Penn Medicine provides comprehensive care for adults with a wide range of disorders. Our physicians apply the latest scientific and medical advances for treatment and conduct ongoing research to develop new strategies for the prevention, detection and treatment of respiratory and allergic diseases as well as critical illness. Our extensive research efforts range from basic scientific investigations to understand why a disease occurs to translating these important observations into potentially new treatment approaches focused on improving patient-centered outcomes.

Job Description

The goal of this position is to provide technical support for ongoing lung transplantation, pulmonary and critical care projects. The candidate will be required to perform sample management duties and research experiments using molecular biology, biochemistry and molecular biology methods. The candidate should have a background in basic and molecular biology. Other necessary skills include the ability to document results, process and report data, and partake in overall lab operating procedures and maintenance.

Plans and conducts basic experiments to meet research project objectives, with close supervision. Assists in performing laboratory experiments and clinical studies for product or material formulation and development. Daily management of laboratory tool, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables. Closely collaborates with Senior Research Specialists and Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental/clinical work set ups in accordance to established protocols.

Independently perform standard assays including ELISA, immunoblotting and flow cytometry. Prepare samples for mass spectroscopy.

Organization and storage of samples for multiple studies including multi-sites studies where our lab is the data coordinating center. Tasks include receiving shipments from multiple centers, inventorying, scanning samples into our laboratory information management system, pulling samples for analysis, and shipment of samples to external collaborators.

Perform molecular biology techniques including RNA and DNA extraction, RT-PCR, and genotyping.

Process human biospecimens from cohort studies including but not limited to plasma, serum, and urine. Processing tasks include centrifugation and alliquoting specimens for storage according to study protocols.

Perform laboratory maintenance activities such as freezer and equipment maintenance.

Document data, analyze data, and optimize and troubleshoot procedures for experiments designed by the study principal investigator.

Perform other duties as assigned

Position Contingent on Continued Funding.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with 0-1 year of related experience in research and clinical study methodologies or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
