The Director of Accounting will manage various accounting functions including, but not limited to, management of payroll and accounts payable, financial statements and charitable filings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of Payroll and Accounts Payable
- Manage and oversee day-to-day activities of payroll and accounts payable functions
- Manage and review preparation, reporting processes and accuracy of data input for bi-weekly payroll processing, 401(k) transactions, benefits and monthly reconciliations
- Review and transmit bi-weekly 401(k) payments to Mass Mutual
- Review journal entries related to payroll, 401(k), leave balances, petty cash and postage
- Assist HR with yearly 401(k) audits and preparing analysis schedules
- Ensure Executive’s bonuses are properly designated to their 457(b) election
- Review accuracy of coding on invoices
- Responsible for voiding checks and placing stop payment orders with online banking
- Review and ensure that W2s and 1099s are processed accurately and in a timely manner
- Review various salaries and benefits schedules as needed by management
- Responsible for transmitting quarterly Workers Comp reports and payments to states ADP does not file (i.e. Washington)
- Fill in for Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant in their absence
- Responsible for applying for state requirements such as SIT, SUI, Secretary of State ID, etc. as needed
Monthly Close and Financial Statements
- Responsible for preparing and compiling monthly close and financial package
- Verify accuracy of Financial Statements and supporting schedules to GL.
- Provide monthly reports to Controller and CFIO
- Work with Controller to ensure compliance with GAAP and Truth Initiative’s policies and procedures
- Assist in annual audit, prepare audit schedules and work with auditors to provide information needed during the annual audit
- Assist in preparing 990 schedules
- Maintain Acumatica monthly reports for expertise centers
Charitable Filings
- Ensure charitable registration renewals are prepared on time by Accounting with Debits and Credits (AWDC)
- Prepare schedules for the charitable filings
- Communicate with AWDC regarding any notices and correspondence from the states
- Prepare annual reports for states which are not prepared by AWDC
Other
- Keep track of tax-exempt certificates expiration date(s); prepare form for renewal application
- Give orientation to new hires
- Respond to ad hoc requests from management
- Other special projects as assigned
- Serve as liaison for record retention.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting and CPA preferred
- 7+ years in related field
- At least 3 years in a supervisory role
- Non-profit experience required
- Knowledge of Cloud-based Accounting system (Acumatica or similar), ADP payroll via i-pay, knowledge of GAAP
- Exceptional Excel file skills, Microsoft office
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Comfortable in team environment
