Job Summary :
Perform a variety of tasks surrounding the set-up and operation of a folding machine that folds sheets of paper into 4, 8, 12, 16, and 32-page sections.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Read and understand work order verifying correct bind type, bulk, trim size, margins and run lengths.
- Learn to interpret the information on the work order and its contents.
- Follow daily running order provided by Scheduling.
- Communicate with Supervisor and Scheduling as needed.
- Set up machine and perform quality folding that meets expectations.
- Load sheets into machine and stack signatures; pull skids in and out of work area.
- Maintain high throughput by performing quick and efficient make-readies and job changeovers.
- Inspect for quality defects ensuring quality standards are achieved.
- Maintain accurate data collections.
- Understand signatures, substrates, bulk, PPI, sig size, trim size, and specified margins.
- Oversee all segments of folder operation.
- Perform preventative maintenance, general cleaning and upkeep of machine and auxiliary equipment.
- Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to machine and auxiliary equipment.
- Assist maintenance personnel with machine repair.
- Exercise initiative, ask questions and look for ways of improving productivity.
- Keep area safe and clean.
- Adequately communicate with oncoming shift
- Perform end of shift duties leaving area ready for oncoming shift.
- Assist training new operators and employees.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications :
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Six (6) months of manufacturing or related experience.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively to all work groups.
- Ability to read, do basic math and work with basic tools (screw drivers, wrenches, etc).
- Ability to read a ruler and understand / use metric system
- Basic computer skills to work with Windows type applications.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to do basic trouble shooting when the equipment is not functioning.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication skills
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work with the following tools or machinery :
- Micrometers
- Calipers Scales
- Pallet jack and lift
- Measuring device
- Retractable Knife
- Scraper
- Wrenches
- Air hose
- Hand tools
- Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts required.
- Prompt and reliable attendance required.
Physical Requirements :
Work is performed in a factory environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and the physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals.
- Safety toe shoes required
- Hearing protection required
- Must be able to stand / work 8 hours with overtime hours as needed
- Ability to lift, carry, push and / or pull 25lbs. on a regular basis
shift Monday to Friday : 3 PM 11 PM
Shift Differential of $1.00 / hour
