Job Summary:
The Payroll Tax Manager will oversee the payroll tax function to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations. This role is responsible for managing the payroll tax processes, resolving tax issues, and implementing tax strategies. The Payroll Tax Manager will work closely with the payroll team, HR, and external tax authorities to ensure accurate and timely payroll tax reporting and payments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations. Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations and implement necessary changes in payroll processes.
- Tax Reporting and Filing: Manage the preparation and filing of all payroll tax returns, including quarterly and annual filings. Ensure accurate and timely submission of payroll tax deposits and returns.
- Reconciliation: Oversee the reconciliation of payroll tax accounts, ensuring that all discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly. Conduct regular audits of payroll tax records to ensure accuracy.
- System Management: Work with payroll systems to ensure accurate tax calculations and deductions. Collaborate with IT and payroll software vendors to resolve any system issues related to payroll taxes.
- Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve payroll tax issues and inquiries from employees, tax authorities, and other stakeholders. Act as the primary point of contact for payroll tax audits and examinations.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in payroll tax operations. Develop and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of payroll tax processes.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to the payroll tax team. Train and mentor staff on payroll tax regulations and processes. Ensure that the team is knowledgeable and up-to-date on all payroll tax matters.
- Collaboration: Work closely with HR, Finance, and Legal departments to ensure coordinated efforts in payroll tax matters. Provide expertise and support on payroll tax implications for compensation and benefits programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll tax management or a related role.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in payroll software and tax reporting systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification is a plus.
