Position Title : Stitcher / Stitcher Journeyman

Department : Costume Shop

Position Summary

Our stitchers are responsible for the repair, alteration, and construction of costumes. They help make sure all the costumes get prepared to go on stage.

Responsibilities

  • Construct or alter all assigned costumes / costume pieces as instructed by the cutter / drapers, shop manager, and fitting assistant / first hands
  • Clean and maintain spaces daily
  • Maintain the integrity of the costume design
  • Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and maintain a safe work environment
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Production Department by performing any additional duties and responsibilities assigned
  • Work with performers and staff in a positive and professional manner at all times
  • Follow and uphold the shop standards and guidelines

Required Qualifications

  • Willingness to follow any required COVID-19 protocols
  • Able to work outside in a desert climate if needed (though our build facilities are located indoors)
  • Demonstrated knowledge / experience in
  • alterations
  • sewing skills, from machine to hand sewing techniques
  • theatrical construction and quick rigging techniques
  • operation of shop equipment including industrial and domestic sewing machines, multi needle and leather sewing machines, steam irons, and cutting tools
  • Able to collaborate with the costume team to efficiently complete assigned projects
  • Able to listen and take instruction
  • Organizational skills
  • Time management skills
  • Communication skills
  • Able to lift 20 lbs

Bonus Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge / experience in
  • Tailoring
  • period construction techniques
  • flat patterning and / or draping
  • Good working knowledge of costume history
  • Understanding of period shape and how to adapt it to theatrical costumes

Other Details :

2024 Season shows include Frozen, Anastasia, Ring of Fire, Jersey Boys, and Christmas Carol.

Contract Dates : Varies, date ranges within 3 / 20-7 / 19. Generally beginning in April / March going through May / June / July.

Salary / Rate : $18.50-19.50 per hour

Limited housing is available at $50 per week.
