What are the responsibilities and job description for the FIELD SUPERINTENDENT position at TUCKER PAVING, INC?
To be a successful as a Field Superintendent you must have excellent leadership skills which will include but not limited to delegating tasks to workers to ensure that deadlines are met, and safety standards are adhered to. Field Superintendent will supervise, and coordinate activities of workers and equipment related to all Tucker Paving, Inc. activities construction projects in a safe and timely manner, utilizing the highest quality of workmanship in a safe manor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise all work activities by Tucker Paving employees and all subcontractors.
- Backs up the Project Superintendent/General Superintendent as the OSHA Competent Person and be able to articulate the relevant safety regulations for the work being performed.
- Proficient with GPS machine-controlled systems on heavy equipment (where applicable).
- Know and comply with and be passionate about all Tucker Paving rules/policies and OSHA regulations, including but not limited to, trench safety, confined space program, Silica Dust Safety.
- Model safe work practices, including waring of all personal protective and safety devices.
- Report to Project Superintendent/General Superintendent/safety any safety violations by crew members or subcontractors.
- Oversee crew to ensure correct methods are employed and strict adherence to safety rules/regulations.
- Responsible for correcting any unsafe conditions that may exist or occur on the job site. This includes assisting with job site inspections. Follow through with any directions for abatement of any noted unsafe condition or hazard. Always report to you supervisor/safety any unabated unsafe condition.
- Together with the Project Superintendent/General Superintendent, look ahead, organize work schedules for work performed on project.
- Plan for job equipment, material and personnel requirements as far in advance as possible.
- Attend any required meetings.
- Attend all scheduled supervisory meetings as assigned, together with all other company events/functions.
- Attend all training classes, seminars as assigned.
- Training new crew members.
- Complete any necessary daily job logs for each crew assigned to your project.
- Promote rapport and team work among field crew.
- Know what to do if an OSHA inspector comes on site.
- Know what to do/not to say in the event of a crisis on site.
- Always present yourself in a professional manner that enhances the reputation of Tucker Paving, Inc.
- Calculating the number of trucks required to haul materials to and from the project according to vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from work site, and productivity of drivers.
- Managing job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, measure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and to supervise the job.
- Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
- Heavy equipment operation including but not limited to: front end loader, excavator, rubber tire backhoe, skid steer, dozer, off road end dump, vibratory roller, grader, water truck, broom tractor.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Will directly supervise 1 to 5 crews.
- Recommends measures to improve productions methods, equipment performance, product quality, crew performance.
- Maintaining company policy.
- Supervising and coordinating crew activities, studying production schedules, and estimating work requirements for completion of job assignment in compliance with or beating the job estimate.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Minimum 5 to 10 years of managing crew related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Prior experience in a supervisory role.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to keep time and material records.
- Exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety.
- Ability to interpret blueprints/plans and construct accordingly.
- Valid Driver license.
- OSHA 30 preferred (but not required).
- Ability to set up & use effectively, site level, grade laser, pipe laser and straight-line level.
Communication Skills:
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction and communicate effectively.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to compute rate, ration, percent.
Reasoning Ability:
Requires independent judgement and conscious thinking.
Computer Skills:
- Ability to use iPad and smartphone.
- Ability to Windows operating systems and associated software.
- Prior experience with PlanGrid (but not required).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions.

- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
