POSITION LOCATION: Main Office – Nature Shop
SUMMARY: The Retail Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the Nature Shop.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Retail
• Manages shop operations including opening and closing.
• Rotates information and lobby displays to reflect current TAS activities.
• Maintains shop appearance along with the Retail Assistant, including regular merchandising and develops creative opportunities for outreach and displays.
• Organizes shop inventory and manages the Point of Sale system (POS).
• Creates and reviews sales reports, manages inventory levels, organizes monthly inventory spot checks, meets with vendors, orders merchandise, researches new merchandise opportunities.
• Processes incoming inventory including purchase order creation and receiving, tags merchandise, and works with volunteers to help manage inventory.
• Completes shop sales transactions as needed or when a volunteer is not available.
• Works with the Finance to ensure receiving, invoicing, and payments are accounted for appropriately.
• Conducts monthly spot checks for inventory management.
• Organizes annual inventory count using inventory tracking scanners and uploads to retail software.
• Maintains wholesale operations and works with Finance to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoicing.
• Develops and manages the TAS online store and Amazon seller account.
• Provides end of month retail reports to Finance.
• Selects and purchases merchandise for store, receives merchandise and submits all required purchase paperwork to accounting.
• Develops relationships with vendors, especially optics vendors.
• Assists with creating the annual budget for the Nature Shop.
• Acts as main point of contact to manage all off-site sales events that involve a major Nature Shop component, such as the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival and Hawk Watch events.
• Collaborates with other departments to support off-site events that have a small shop component.
• Supports book signing events for other programs including book orders and processing sales.
• Plans marketing efforts for the Nature Shop, including regular newsletter ads for shop merchandise, general flyers, coupon programs, and frequent buyer programs.
Outreach and Development
• Prepares the shop to function as the face of TAS through creative and consistent branding.
• Works with Communications Team to ensure appropriate information for the Nature Shop goes out in weekly email, newsletters, on the TAS website and on social media.
• Promotes membership, volunteering, donations, field trips, the festival, and programming to shop patrons.
• Works with the Development department to gather contact information on non-member customers.
Nature Shop Volunteer Assistance
• Manages Nature Shop volunteers with Retail Customer Coordinator as it pertains to general shop operations and processes.
• Works with Volunteer Coordinator regarding scheduling and other volunteer needs for the Shop.
• Works with Volunteer Coordinator to recognize shop volunteers and keep morale high.
• Streamline Nature Shop operational procedures and communicates them to staff and volunteers.
General Shop Operations
• Assists in answering inquiries from the public regarding natural history, bird identification, and bird watching locations.
• Supports library checkout and reference use.
• Supports publication and reprinting of TAS publications: Finding Birds in Southeast
• Arizona, Tucson Audubon’s Checklist to the Birds of Southeast Arizona, Tucson Audubon’s Checklist to the Birds of North America, obtains ISBN numbers and barcodes, and manages timelines.
• Oversees shipping area needs and supports volunteers in shipping efforts
• Responsible for general upkeep of the library and mail collection.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Special projects or other duties as needed
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position oversees the Retail Customer Coordinator and the group of Nature Shop volunteers on a daily basis.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES:
Required
• Associate degree in a related field
• 1 year retail, inventory management, or related experience
• Knowledge of Shopify or other similar retail software
• Experience supervising staff
• Experience with Amazon.com and Stamps.com
• Excellent customer service skills
• Strong working knowledge of, and comfort with, internet use, e-mail, Microsoft Office, Google programs, and social media
• Strong organizational and time management skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate positively with people at all levels
• Valid Arizona Driver’s License
• Understanding of and commitment to the organization’s mission, goals, and values
• Flexibility with work schedule, must be able to work Saturdays
Preferred
• Volunteer management experience
• Experience with merchandising, visual art, and displays
• Knowledge of birds, birding, and related local resources
• Familiarity with binoculars and optics
