GPS Technician/Model Builder/Assistant Project Manager
Job Description
Primary Purpose of the Job: The CAD Technician will utilize specific CAD software and will work as part of the Take Off/Drafting/Modeling team to create, modify, analyze or optimize 2D and 3D designs. The position is responsible for creating 3D CAD models of projects along with generation of exhibits and field files for GPS guided equipment and survey devices. This position also encompasses survey, layout and staking of projects and will assist with project bidding and planning.
GPS/CAD Technician Responsibilities:
· Analyzes information from contract drawings, specifications, and field surveys
· Uses AutoCad and Trimble Business Center (or similar products) to develop surfaces and line work for guided machines
· Verifies that the data issued to the field is accurate, constructible, and per plan
· Identifies conflicts and resolves ambiguity in the engineer/owner’s design. Works with Project Engineers and prepares RFI’s that address plan inconsistencies
· Creates layout and machine control data for GPS equipment
· Updates Model data where applicable
· Works with site and highway plan sets
· Maintains organized file system
· Creates exhibits to assist in the planning or execution of the work
· Prepares as-built drawings from topographic data collected on the job site
· Creates progress reporting and finishes as-built drawings
· Know the functionality of the software, rover, cables, etc. and be able to navigate around programs.
· Field calibration of GPS project sties
· Train field staff in use of equipment and software as needed
· Assignment, delivery, and tracking of assigned equipment
· Responsible to ensure regular and routine maintenance on GPS equipment
· Responsible to coordinate and perform project site survey, layout and staking
Estimating/Assistant Project Manager Responsibilities:
· Assists with project bidding and planning
· Works closely with and supports project managers and field personnel on projects.
· Prepare quantity take-off lists from project plans and specifications
· Attend pre-bid meetings and perform project site inspections
· Determine the necessary equipment, materials, and manpower needed
· Procure project pricing from vendors and subcontractors making specific emphasis to ensure products meet required specifications and a comprehensive understanding of each subcontractor’s scope of work along with all inclusions and exclusions
· Establish and maintain bid files by project
· Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of job details and specifications into the Heavy Bid software
· Review and incorporate historical data from job cost and productivity reports in preparation of project estimates
· Collaborate with engineers, architects, subcontractors, and key members of the project team
· Resolve contract issues with project owner, subcontractors, and material suppliers
· Develop and track necessary submittals for projects
· Keep all stakeholders aware of the progress on projects and provide progress reports regularly
· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects or any items requested by Management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The individual should be professional, intelligent, analytical, detail oriented, dependable and highly motivated
- The individual should be highly organized, set priorities, and meet deadlines and be able to multi-task
- The individual should be proficient using CAD or have a strong desire to learn CAD
- The individual should have 3D Modeling experience in an acceptable software product.
- The individual should have an understanding of surveying and machine guidance equipment and software.
- The individual must have basic Civil blue print reading skills.
- The individual should have excellent communication skills and interpersonal abilities, including negotiation skills to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, management, customers, vendors and subcontractors
- Knowledge of Trimble, CAD, HCSS Heavy Bid software, Timberline, and MS Office Suite software
- Knowledge of ODOT specification manuals
- The individual should have knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control, construction materials and equipment, material pricing along with solid project management skills
· The individual should possess the minimum of a four (4) year degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering or the equivalent work-related experience
