Reporting to the Tufts Medicine Director of Accounting, the Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining all accounting records, analyzing and interpreting statistical and accounting information according to generally accepted accounting principles and Tufts Medicine Integrated Network (TMIN) developed policies and procedures, and for presenting this information in the form of financial statements and reports provides leadership to all aspect of the financial cycle, including collection and analysis of data, as well as timely and accurate financial reporting. The Accounting Manager will lead an accounting team of Senior and Staff accountants in completing the month-end and year-end close as well as the monthly reporting of the entities within TMIN.
The Accounting Manager will assist the Chief Financial Officer in the organization and oversight of the monthly consolidated TMIN financial statements, month end closing and financial review; and establishing and maintaining policies and procedures
The Accounting Manager will also assist in variance reporting and ad-hoc data reporting and analysis requests. Compliance functions include monitoring compliance with all financial reporting standards, initiating policy revisions when required, maintaining and updating internal procedures as necessary. System administration functions include the on-going operational and informational integrity of the general ledger as well as other applications, reports, and databases.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the integrity of the financial information presented in external and internal financial statements.
- Works closely with contract finance and financial analytics to operationalize contractual terms and network “funds flow” policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and prepares for year - end audits conducted by public accounting firm.
- Responsible for the preparation and review of all budgets/forecasts, and monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Assist in the preparation of the TMIC monthly consolidated financial statements, including variance analysis, balance sheet review, and significant reserves and estimates.
- Prepare monthly internal financial reports for presentation to senior management.
- Review of trial balances on a monthly basis to identify unusual items, variances or trends, which impact the consolidated results.
- Ensure the accurate completion of account reconciliations and manage the resolution of un-reconciled accounts.
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of inter-company account activity.
- Assists and acts as a resource to administrators, department heads, Local Care Organizations, and executive management
- Assist with and lead projects for corporate management and operating units as requested and directed by the Director of Corporate Accounting and Corporate Controller, VP of Financial Reporting.
- Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation.
- Maintain position descriptions, responsibilities and standards of performance for department employees.
- Provide performance reviews on an annual basis.
- Ensure that business is conducted in accordance with the Tufts Medicine’s Internal Control Policy and other covered policies and use ethical and sound business principles, which help ensure the long-term financial security and success of the Tufts Medicine.

Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
- CPA is preferred
- 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience required
- 2 years of management experience.
- Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and engender trust from the Tufts Medicine community.
- Strong communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal, and problem solving; organizational, and customer service skills.
- Must demonstrate strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Must show ability to manage multiple tasks and delivery dates.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills: experience working across multiple levels (including executive level) and functions; able to clearly communicate complex financial information in an easy to understand manner; able to deliver message effectively verbally and in writing.
