Organization Highway District 3 Pay $19.28 Pay Frequency Hourly Full Time / Part Time Full time Job Summary Under general direction, assists in the coordination and supervision of the maintenance and repair of highway vehicles and heavy equipment by performing the following duties. Job Description All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Supervise the work of subordinates and inspects the completion of work requests. • Report on the equipment and parts needed to complete a work request. • Complete general maintenance on all highway vehicles and heavy equipment which includes valves, pistons, and brakes, main bearing assemblies, cooling system, ignition, and fuel systems of gasoline and diesel vehicles. • Repair and overhaul transmissions, differentials, front and rear end assemblies, air compressors, hydraulic systems and other specialized equipment. • May repair body damage using specialized body repair tools and equipment. • Make field service calls as necessary. Train other employees. Additional Job Description REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Skill in the supervision and coordination of gasoline and diesel maintenance and repair; in use and operation of tools and equipment used in repair, painting and body work; and in personal computers. Knowledge of inventory techniques and shop policies; of safety rules and equipment; of operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines; of supervisory principles; and of departmental policies and procedures. Ability to plan, organize and control the work of others; to diagnose defects in equipment; to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific problems; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to interpret and work from sketches and pencil diagrams; to communicate in a clear, precise and concise manner with subordinates; to maintain records and prepare reports; to deal tactfully with others; and to maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform heavy manual labor. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly leads 1 to 5 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Education equivalent to graduation from a standard four year high school supplemented by Vo-Tech training in equivalent to junior college and five years of satisfactory, full time paid employment as an all-around diesel maintenance/repair mechanic; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, substituting one year of satisfactory full time paid employment for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of two years. Diesel and gas engine or auto body repair LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Oklahoma Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsement A/C License PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
