Formerly known as Project TURN, we were founded in 1973 by a group of parents who wanted better program services for their adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Now known as TURN Community Services, we provide resources to more than 850 individuals with developmental disabilities across Utah. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM ASSISTANT
This Assistant position is Supported Living/Family Support and West Haven Residential in St. George. The Supported Living/Family Support program serves 16 individuals and oversees 3-5 DSPs and the West Haven Residential program serves 5 individuals and oversees 5-8 DSPs.
The individuals love to be out and about, exploring, trying new things, and just having fun. As the Assistant you will assist individuals to attend city activities, plays, and concerts, get yummy treats, go shopping, both personal and grocery, and have many other fun experiences.
The Assistant will help the Program Coordinator plan and execute all aspects of running the programs. This position will assist individuals with personal hygiene, social skills, communication, safety, shopping, cleaning, cooking, medications and various medical supports, frequent assistance with moving or transfers which includes lifting up to 50 pounds, transportation to various locations, such as to and from work and appointments, financial supports, record keeping, including bank statements, receipts and online banking, recreation and leisure opportunities and various other skills to learn independence in their lives.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM ASSISTANT
- 6 months of experience working with individuals with Developmental/intellectual disabilities
- Ability to complete required training within 3 months of employment
- Ability to produce and review typed business letters, reports, and accurate numerical records
- Personal and reliable transportation
- Valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and proof of insurance
- Basic computer skills
- Leadership skills
Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviors is preferred. Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? WORK SCHEDULE
The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday during the day into the early evening hours.
In addition, the program assistant must have flexibility and availability to respond to the program in the event of an emergency, such as covering a shift or a medical emergency. This may include working, day, afternoon, evening, overnight, and on the weekends. Every other weekend the assistant will be expected to be available for program needs.
