The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning and scheduling work from the work order backlog system, continually evaluating and updating the preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs, and analyzing the Maintenance Department’s performance to assist the plant in achieving maximum productivity with minimal downtime due to equipment issues.
- Coordinate all maintenance activities for the plant. Prioritize and schedule work from the work order backlog system and produce annual, monthly, weekly, daily work schedules to ensure all required maintenance is performed. Manage the planning of the step by step execution of all major equipment outages and significant repairs, by utilizing project-planning techniques and software.
- Continuously monitor, evaluate and modify the preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure machinery uptime is maximized & all resources used in the most effective way.
- Ensure that all regulated inspections are completed within guidelines to maximize safety and to minimize downtime and fines.
- Provide oversight and leadership to the mechanical maintenance function of the plant through the following:
- Work closely with production and other departments in developing the work schedules including the coordination of all maintenance activities for efficient flow of operations. Serve as the liaison between departments for optimal coordination.
- Develop and maintain files such as: equipment lists, suppliers list, operating, maintenance manuals, purchase orders, drawings, checklists, spare parts lists, corrective maintenance details, maintenance history, departmental performance, and PM compliance.
- Oversee the availability of parts for all work orders scheduled on the daily worksheet by working closely with the stores department in ordering, receiving, purchasing of parts and the selection of suppliers to maintain the schedule.
- Assist the stores department in controlling and reducing equipment inventory by establishing and reviewing maximums/minimums, reordering of parts, and identifying obsolete parts.
- Responsible for maintaining and keeping up to date the Bill of Materials (BOM) records.
- Assist the Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Managers in the preparation of the annual maintenance budget; the development of the department's long-term goals and objectives to meet the overall plant operational and cost containment goals.
- Support maintenance projects by identifying parts required to execute work, tool requirements, manpower requirements, and the estimated completion time for effective planning & execution of maintenance work.
- Review maintenance costs and recommend areas where savings can be made for overall reduction of maintenance costs.
- Facilitate daily, weekly, monthly planning meetings to recommend the necessary repairs based on input from the Production and other plant departments. Provide ongoing maintenance support to the plant for all shifts by participating in the plant’s on-call program. This includes evaluating and determining the course of action for maintenance incidents after hours and on weekends while on call and may require on-site supervision of the resolution to maintain operational efficiency.

HERE’S WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering strongly preferred in mechanical engineering
- Prior experience supervising a staff in a maintenance function
- Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience for a plant, cement plant experience desired
- Solid understanding of preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance principles, techniques and technologies
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and motive others
- Prior experience working with large rotating heavy industry machinery and equipment
- Demonstrated project management skills, preferably involving multiple departments
- Thorough understanding of plant operations, plant equipment, repair techniques and resource planning
- Solid understanding of purchasing principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively and ensure coordination to achieve common goals
- Solid computer skills including knowledge of SAP for maintenance purposes; prior experience with project management software a plus.
- Ability to integrate the needs of multiple parties into an overall goal
- Strong communication skills to ensure coordination of work and completion of tasks
- Demonstrated experience in leadership and project management, problem solving and creativity, strategic thinking, and decision making
- Ability to perform tasks that include walking, climbing equipment, working within confined spaces and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including MS Excel, Word, Access and Project
