What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thermographer position at TUV SUD America?
Primary Objective:
Provide world class field engineering customer service customer through efficient delivery of GRC's Infrared Thermographic Services per the GRC baseline and client-specific contract
Provide value-added risk engineering services and be a trusted advisor to the client.
Identify client needs and communicate potential opportunities to the Account Engineer
General Responsibilities:
On all accounts, participate in and complete the following:
Field Engineering Surveys to meet GRC baseline and client-specific requirements (ASI's).
Proficiencies in Infrared Thermal Imager and conducting site-wide inspections.
Ensure all applicable electrical equipment is "scanned" throughout all the site's facilities. Including utilities, switchgear, switchboards, MCC's, Machine Control Panels, Production Machinery, Bus Ducts, Mechanical Equipment, HVAC equipment, elevated areas and rooftop equipment, etc.
Full understanding of the GRC Baseline Account Servicing Instructions (ASI's).
Conduct thorough review of all client-specific ASI's.
Where necessary, conduct brief review(s) of GRC's Boiler/Machinery and/or Fire &Associated Perils Loss Prevention Reports.
Complete high-quality GRC Thermographic Survey Reports:
Ensure Equipment Inventory is fully vetted, listing all applicable power panels.
Utilization of GRC's technology (handheld units and other laptop-interface devices) * Note: Some individuals may choose to utilize laptop only. This will be acceptable as long as proficiencies are executed to meet 100% Actual: Quoted hours' time charges.
Ensure all thermographic imagery reflects accurate readings, matches digital imagery.
Ensure all Findings accurately identify and match-up with the appropriate equipment,
Probable Cause and Recommendations reflect accuracy results for site resolution of the findings.
Proper and consistent identification of each Recommendation in terms of both: Severity Class categories: FYI, 1-star (*), 2-star (**), 3-star (***), 4-star (****) Impact Rating: Low, Moderate, High Note: Refer to GRC's baseline Severity / Impact ratings.
On strategic accounts utilizing Property Loss Control Checklists, the following additional items would be expected:
Conduct basic property visual examination inspection items as per the required checklist questions.
Be able to identify basic property/fire protection risk exposures.
Account Workload Management
Routine workload reviews (weekly) to ensure minimum 140-hour billable hours per month goal.
Satisfactory review and assignment of Engineering Target Months (ETM's) to the appropriate and realistic month for each assigned survey.
Proper review of workload for Client Expiration Dates, ETM's, Client Target Months
(CTM's), Last Year's Inspection.
Scheduling of efficient Trip Groups for all work to ensure performance within 100% of the Actual:Quoted hours are achieved.
Target Scheduling Goal:
By the end of each month, the following month should be ~90-100% scheduled and confirmed with clients (i.e. by the end of January, the month of February should be ~90-100% booked)
By the end of each month, approximately ~60-70% of the following 2nd month should be scheduled and confirmed with clients (i.e. by the end of January, the month of March should be ~60-70% booked)
Review of all ASI's prior to scheduling to ensure adequate client servicing.
Review of Client Scheduling Comments and Field Notes for all relevant site-specific information
Client Relationships
GRC Quality Assurance Reports completed by Clients should receive a minimum "Good" rating and optimally "Excellent" rating.
Clients should be satisfied with both Field Engineering and Report content.
Client Relationship Management (Client Advocacy in Field Engineering Preparation/Client Technical Resource and close communications with GRC Account Team (Global Manager, Account Engineer)
Client Needs Identification and Evaluation (Match GRC Services to Client Needs)
Thermographer's should not be removed from a survey or future servicing of an account due to substandard performance or misconduct conditions.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to walk extensively through manufacturing/non-manufacturing environments, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, stand/sit, speak clearly, listen intently and to have visual acuity.
Be capable of traversing catwalks, mezzanines, rooftops and other areas of the facilities, following all Company and customer-oriented safe work practices, safety programs and safe operating procedures
Be physically fit to walk extensively through facilities each day, moving about any client facility / work sites to gather, collect and obtain information, data, etc. for the Thermographic Survey Reports and survey content.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment daily, including but not limited to, FR rated clothing, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety steel-toe footwear, gloves and as needed, other protective equipment as required.
Ability to work in confined spaces and tight corridors, as well as working closely around moving, rotating, electrically energized and elevated equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Administrative Duties:
Candidates for Thermographer positions within GRC should possess the following attributes and qualifications:
Be self-motivated, conscientious, and able to work effectively, efficiently and independently.
Capabilities of delivering on employee Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goals and objectives.
Well-organized and task-oriented with strong calendar organization,
Commitments to timely completion of tasks, target dates, client deadlines and meetings.
Be willing and able to travel up to 75% (3-weeks per month). Lesser degree of travel may be possible at times if there is sufficient workload within the employees given geographic territory
Frequent travel across the United States in all states, with the potential for International Travels.
When higher level of technical abilities is needed, seek out technical support from Global Manager - Infrared, Technical and Quality support team.
Ability to work with administrative and support staff in cooperative and positive manner.
Commitment to continuous improvement.
Be willing to take-on additional assignments, projects and tasks assigned by management.

Candidates for Thermographer positions within GRC should possess the following:
Experience in the industry of Infrared Thermography and/or as an Electrician is desired (if the candidate is an electrician, in-house infrared thermography training is available and will be considered for the right candidate).
A working knowledge and understanding of basic principles/fundamentals of electricity and electrical components, electrical power panels, switchgear, motor control centers, breakers, disconnects, transformers, machinery and mechanical systems, etc.
Journeyman Electrician is optimal/preferred, but not required
2-year technical degree in Maintenance, Reliability, Electrical/Mechanical or equivalent experience is optimal/preferred, but not required.
Level I Certified Infrared Thermographer meeting qualifications of ASNT or international equivalent by an ISO 9001 or equivalent registered company. Non-certified candidates will be considered with strong electrical and technical skill set
Proficiency in Airborne Ultrasound equipment or Level I Certified Ultrasound Operator or international equivalent by an ISO 9001 or equivalent registered company. Non-certified candidates will be considered with strong electrical and technical skill set
A working knowledge and understanding of basic principles/fundamentals of electricity and electrical components, electrical power panels, switchgear, motor control centers, breakers, disconnects, transformers, machinery and mechanical systems, etc
Have a strong base of electrical system components, electricity, hazards associated, manufacturing equipment and machinery, etc
Can apply technical knowledge to client needs to assist in electrical/mechanical or other technical troubleshooting and business decision-making process.
Excellent communications skills.
Possess strong Computer and Technology skill set. Ability to learn GRC's technology, equipment, electronic software and interface between external devices (imager, tablet, digital camera, media) and laptop (Internet, Microsoft Office Suite, infrared software programs, etc.)
Ability to adapt to Global Risk Consultants systems and products (website, EDA, Workload Management, Time Reporting, etc.).
Ability to author/write technical content, identify probable cause and outline recommendations for resolution for all deficiencies identified
Ability to work with administrative and support staff
