Paralegal Specialist (Entry Level)

OVERVIEW
As a Paralegal Specialist, you’ll be an integral part of the U.S. Army’s legal system. You’ll be expected to provide legal and administrative support in all areas of criminal law, family law, international law, civil and administrative law, contract law, and fiscal law. You’ll assist judges, Army lawyers, and unit commanders with legal matters and judicial work.
JOB DUTIES
- Paralegal Specialists are required to know legal terminology and research techniques.
- A MOS 27D specialist provides support in criminal law, civil/administrative law, fiscal law, contract law, and international law.
- There may be times when the paralegal will be required to interview witnesses and create appropriate documentation/statement information from the interview.
- They will participate in pre-trial investigations and proceedings.
TRAINING
- Ability to monitor and review actions for accuracy
- Supervision duties for those in command
- Ability to provide technical guidance to subordinates
- Maintain law/administrative library
Paralegal specialists in the Army take 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 10 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Lee in Virginia. If you pursue this MOS, you'll learn legal terminology and research techniques. You will also learn how to prepare legal documents and gain an understanding of the Army judicial process.

Requirements
Those who want to serve must first take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.
