Summary

Under general supervision, sets up and operates various press brake machines to form, shape or bend steel and/or sheet metal using templates, gauges, rules for correct tolerance per specifications, requiring familiarity with various gauges of sheet metal and/or steel.

Job Duties

  • Installs and secures dies to machine as required and sets necessary gauges and stops
  • Adjusts brake to correct depth for operation performed
  • Places material indie properly to insure good product
  • Operated press brake machine to form, shape or bend steel and/or sheet metal
  • Places finished pieces of trucks, skids or into boxes as required
  • Uses templates, gauges and rules for correct tolerance per specifications
  • Spot checks various runs of work to assure conformance to specifications
  • May move material in and out of department as required
  • May be asked to operate a forklift and/or hand truck, if licensed
  • May be required to refer to simple shop drawings for proper bending and punching
  • Refers unusual problems to group leader/supervisor
  • Required to fill out work orders and job cards correctly
  • Work station must be kept clean and organized
  • Performs other work as directed commensurate with this or lesser rated labor grades

Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills Ability to read and interpret document such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractures and decimals. Ability to compute rates.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities Basic blueprint reading.

Safety Requirements Protective Footwear Ansi Z41 Class 75, hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, cloth, leather or Kevlar work gloves.
