Qualifications:
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.
For the CP-9/GS-11 you must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least CP-8/G10 level, which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled, and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized Experience is defined as experience which includes: 1) demonstrated expertise serving as an instructor for a weapons training program 2) experience in developing and executing lesson plans and practical exercises using traditional and innovative teaching methods with adult learners in a law enforcement setting and 3) experience in the maintenance of weapons and armors.
Must have successfully completed the Firearms Instructor Training Program (FITP) or equivalent.

Responsibilities:
This position serves as a firearms training instructor for the Physical Skills Division (PSD) within the Training Services Bureau (TSB) for the USCP. This position is located in the Training Services Bureau (TSB), Washington D.C., but the applicant will also be required to report to the Training Academy in Cheltenham, MD or other area ranges as assigned. TSB is committed to meeting the rapidly changing needs of the Department and its employees, to facilitating the achievements of the Department's goals and objectives for protecting the Members of Congress and their facilities and to achieving the maximum value for each training hour.The Training Instructor (Firearms) performs a variety of duties as listed below, but are not limited to:
Providing general entry-level and in-service firearms training to all sworn employees.
Presents weapons training programs and courses for the Department and Bureau. Provides comprehensive instruction in the safe, proficient, and tactical use of Department-issued firearms, including handguns, shotguns, rifles, and submachine guns, including weapon maintenance and armoring. Conducts practical exercises with a variety of weapons. Evaluates students' performance and determines qualification level. Sets up, maintains, and manages the range. Develops student evaluation system relevant to each firearms training program.Rate and score sworn employees and make the initial determination whether they qualify or fail to qualify to meet department standards. Analyze the results and exercise independent judgment and discretion in making recommendations to management on training policies and other personnel actions.Plans and develops lesson plans and uses diverse instructional methods in order to present law enforcement subjects in an effective and efficient manner. Participates in the research, planning, analysis and decision-making processes for the development and delivery of training courses. Provides instruction on topics from approved course materials and instructional plans for sworn employees. Serves as an adjunct instructor in support of additional TSB course curriculums, not limited to the taser.
Salary : $105,205 - $135,863
