U.S. Army Musician 42R
ACASP (Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program): Active Duty Only
Requirement: Meet the technical proficiency requirements by audition. Applicants must meet the minimum technical proficiency requirements contained in the Army Musician Proficiency Assessment Handbook.
Active (Full Time): As a part of a team of soldiers, you secure your future with a career in the Active-Duty Army (full-time), pay for college, guaranteed full healthcare for you and your immediate family members. You gain leadership skills, college credits, and job-security. This is an entry level position with no experience necessary.
Reserve (Part Time: 1 weekend a month): As a part of a local team of soldiers, you secure your future with a career in the Army Reserve, pay for college, and access to low-cost healthcare with family benefits. Overview
Musicians specialize in one (or more) of the following instruments/specialties: tuba, trombone, euphonium, bassoon, electric bass guitar, saxophone, flute or piccolo, oboe, clarinet, French horn, percussion, cornet or trumpet, guitar, keyboard, vocalist, and music production.
Musicians perform in a variety of ensembles ranging from ceremonial band to jazz band to small ensembles, playing all styles of music. They are primarily responsible for performing and rehearsing as a professional musician within different ensembles of an Army band.
The U.S. Army is a uniformed service of the United States and is part of the Department of the Army, which is one of the three military departments of the Department of Defense.

Job Duties
- Perform in all musical styles on your instruments, including (but not limited to): marching band, ceremonial band, concert band, classical, jazz, ethnic and popular music compositions
- Perform on a musical instrument in a variety of ensembles, ranging from solo performance to full concert band
- Tune an instrument to a given pitch
- Transpose moderately easy music
Basic Qualifications:
· Age - 17 to 35 years old (35 and above is waivable)
· Must be a US citizen or Green Card Holder
· No open law violations.
· Must pass a drug screen (Paid for)
· Must currently be in good health with no physical limitations.
Training
Job training for a plumber requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field with on-the-job instructions, including practice with carpentry and masonry tools.
Some of the skills you’ll learn are:
- Private instrumental instruction
- Music theory
- Sight singing and ear training
- Group instrumental techniques
- Percussion techniques
Compensation
Total compensation includes housing allowance, full medical insurance, tuition assistance, food allowance, special pay, vacation with pay, life insurance, maternity or paternity leave and career progression trainings.
