What are the responsibilities and job description for the ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM SPECIALIST (PREVENTION SPECIALIST), NF-0101-04 position at U.S. Marine Corps?

Qualifications:

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services related field appropriate to substance abuse prevention from an accredited college or university is required AND three years of experience that demonstrates extensive knowledge of alcohol/substance abuse prevention. Master’s degree in a behavioral health field is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Marine Corps Drug Testing Program (DTP), Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS), Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Lab (FTDTL), and/or related drug testing programs and management information systems, office automation systems and processes, computer applications, principles, and techniques. 
  • Knowledge of local, State and Federal regulations as they pertain to alcohol/substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of operating procedures of substance abuse treatment, drug testing, prevention, and command inspection programs.
  • Knowledge of the military structure and environment preferred.  
  • This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required. 

Responsibilities:

What to Expect

  • Serves as an advisor for oversight and development of various substance abuse prevention training and education programs to include research of unit level operations, critical assessment and training evaluation processes and procedures, and development and conduct of training curricula that provides specific and measurable learning objectives.
  • Develops, coordinates, and submits alcohol/substance abuse prevention plans and policy recommendations to include plans and policies that reflect the relationship of chemical dependency such as: alcohol abuse, family problems (including family violence), suicide, sexual assault, combat and operational stress, financial problems, and other problems that detract from individual, unit, and family readiness.
  • Reviews, modifies, develops, and implements alcohol/substance abuse prevention and intervention educational training programs, ensuring training and support capabilities are timely, relevant to commanders’ needs, flexible, sustainable in execution, and thoroughly coordinated with Headquarters Marine Corps and field personnel.
  • Reviews, develops, recommends, and monitors measures of effectiveness for alcohol/substance abuse prevention capabilities and training to ensure that Marine Corps training requirements are executed appropriately and program needs are met. 
  • Plans a public relations campaign for alcohol/substance abuse efforts to include submitting written articles for publication such as newsletters, making personal contacts, and developing a plan of action with the public affairs officers, program managers, and other concerned agencies.
