Evaluate, plan and implement Speech-Language Pathology treatment programs for referred patients. Perform overall daily operational tasks of Speech-Language Pathology service within the department. Show respect and courtesy to all staff, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities

PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY) Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Patient Evaluation: - Evaluate patients using appropriate therapeutic media. Develop individualized treatment programs consistent with patient's diagnosis, status and goals. Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development and the range of treatment needed by different age groups of patients. Recommend patient diet and/or communication facilitation and follow-up. Includes obtaining and interpreting information relative to the patient's needs.

Documentation: - Document patient evaluation, status, progress and discharge per approved procedures.

Treatment: - Implement the treatment plan in collaboration with the treatment team. Monitor patient's response and modifies plan as needed.

Department Operations: - Represent personnel, fiscal, professional and program needs to the Manager. Provide for acquisition, care and maintenance of physical facility supplies, and equipment within allotted area of budget. Develop, implement, and monitor department policies and procedures in collaboration with Manager. Promote team building and maintenance of team collaboration in patient care. Represent Speech-Language Pathology at PM&R, Neurology and Neurosurgery patient care rounds. Represent the hospital/department at community speech, Speech and Hearing Director and Graduate Students Practicum Advisory Board Meetings.

Process Improvement/Education: - Monitor area programming needs and support program development. Assist Manager and collaborate with PT/OT for development and supervision of department PI programs. Represent Speech-Language Pathology on assigned hospital program development PI committees. Provide in-service lectures to hospital dietitians, respiratory therapists, nurses, rehabilitation employees and students. Contribute to the clinical and academic education of medical students, residents, and undergraduate Speech Language Pathology students and students within the College of Allied Health.

Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in speech language pathology.

License & Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence awarded by ASHA or working towards certification, and Licensure by the State of Ohio.

Years of Experience: 3 years' experience preferred.

Required Skills and Knowledge: Excellent customer service skills.
