- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, or materials science.
- Theoretical and working knowledge of the use of balances, stirrers, spectrophotometers, pH meters, regulators, volt-meters, UV-VIS, GC's, NMR, FTIR's and other laboratory equipment.
- Sufficient laboratory background to correctly perform and evaluate all course experiments within the position's responsibility. Working knowledge of preparing and testing solutions for accuracy and purity.
- Knowledge of current Cal OSHA safety regulations and practices as they apply to chemical laboratories and waste disposal.
- Familiarity with Environmental Health and Safety waste disposal regulations and practices. Must have sufficient knowledge of physical properties and incompatibilities of chemicals to execute safe disposal procedures. Familiarity with Environmental Health and Safety and Chemistry Department safety policies and procedures and have good knowledge of safe laboratory practices.
- Experience performing fiscal/budgetary analysis, preparing accurate cost estimates, and monitoring operating expenses of the Chemistry Teaching Stockroom.
- Demonstrated experience, using oral and written methods, to work, communicate with, and provide accurate information in an effective and diplomatic manner to a diverse group of Faculty, Staff, and Students.
- Advanced experimental knowledge sufficient to evaluate and modify new experiments for the Chemistry teaching laboratory program.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, preparing, and performing demonstrations as required.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing workload; and maintaining, directing, and controlling a large laboratory operation.
- Experience with planning and utilizing laboratory space efficiently and safely.
- Familiarity with standard inventory practices in order to be able to determine supply needs and fill those needs within budgetary constraints and through established distribution channels.
- Experience maintaining accurate and complete records for reagent preparation and inventory list of chemicals, glassware, equipment, and other supplies.
- Knowledge of applicable University policies and procedures
