Job Description

The Manager of Clinical Education is responsible for the administration and management of Patient Care Services (Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Pharmacy) orientation, computerized education tracking, electronic learning management system, audiovisual and classroom services, and continuing education programs. The Manager of Clinical Education is also responsible for overseeing the patient education effort for the organization.

Responsibilities

Directs the activities of the Staff Development / Education Services Department by: - 70% Assisting in long and short term planning of department activities to insure that human and material resources are available to meet the needs of the department. Participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of department goals and objectives. Ensuring that the department meets State and JCAHO Requirements. Reviewing annually the policies and procedures of the department. Assuming fiscal responsibility for the departments by: Recommending operating and capital equipment budget based on input from members of the department. Monitoring and evaluating the monthly budget, productivity, and identifying areas for improvement. Facilitating communication and problem solving with other departments in the department of Patient Services and within the UC Health. Overseeing and monitoring orientation labor and supply costs. Directs other activities of the Department assuming responsibility for: The Continuing Education program. The education/orientation program for staff. Maintaining American Heart Association standards for Training. Coordinates training for BLS and ACLS. Management of the Patient Education: Coordinates efforts for a unified approach for patient education using the principles of adult learning. � Serves as a UC Health CE Approver Unit for all patient services disciplines by: - 10% Maintaining the accreditation as an approver/ provider of continuing education through the Ohio Board of Nursing and other similar licensing units (RT, PT, OT, ST, Board of Pharmacy). Assuring that all the continuing education programs are in compliance with the Board of Nursing criteria. Developing annual goals and objectives for the Approver/Provider Unit. Evaluating and summarizing the Approver/Provider Unit activity on an annual basis. Maintaining the continuing education records according to the Board of Nursing criteria and other similar licensing units (RT, PT, OT, ST, and Board of Pharmacy). � Ensures department readiness for changing health care environment through active participation with facility based, interdepartmental staff/administration, and physician standards specifically related to: - 10% Establishment of an environment that utilizes the core values of the UC Health as communication expectations/standards of practice. Establishes an environment where coaching, facilitating, negotiating, etc. are standard operational expectations. Utilization of research and national practice trends as valued processes in education practices. Counsels, directs, rewards, disciplines and terminates staff as directed by hospital policy. Establishes an environment that values diversity and that reflects diverse input in all decision-making and planning activities. Utilization of management for internal and external resources/staff as leader/consultant to group in problem identification and concurrent and strategic planning/implementation. Establishes environment that promotes individual and group goal achievement and recognition. Represents self in a professional manner as a model to staff Pursues educational and professional opportunities to ensure growth. Key member in leading and directing Patient Services Division/ hospital projects, programs and other committees. � Intra/Interdepartmental Communications Facilitates inter and intradepartmental communication by: - 10% Promoting communication and problem solving among nursing leadership within WCH and throughout the Alliance. Serving as a liaison to departments, committees and UC Health groups. Ensuring that effective channels of communication exist between the staff and management. Sharing information and problem solving within WCMC and throughout the UC Health. Accepts direction from VP/ Chief Nursing Officer for other projects when indicated. | Review the physical demands and assign an overall average percentage of time this position performs these activities. Qualifications

Minimum Required: Master's Degree MSN | Licensed RN in the State of Ohio ? CPHQ or Nursing Leadership certification preferred | Minimum Required: 6 - 10 Years equivalent experience
