To strengthen our Discovery Biology department based in our Cambridge, MA hub, we are seeking a creative and dynamic Biochemical and Biophysical Scientist to join our Mechanistic Biology group.
The incumbent will build on established hands-on scientific expertise and drive forward integrated cross-disciplinary efforts to develop the next generation of innovative small molecule and peptide therapeutics for multiple therapeutic programs including complement dysregulation diseases across the global UCB research organization. The candidate will be expected to develop and execute novel biochemical and biophysical assays towards discovery, characterization, and optimization of therapeutical hits and advancing them to late stage development.

- Leverage knowledge of mechanistic biology technology to support ongoing target/hit discovery and identification projects.
- Effectively work with project teams in a fast-paced, highly integrated, collaborative research environment.
- Design, develop, and execute diverse biochemical and biophysical assays, enable the project team to assess both mechanism and modulation of disease targets, including hit identification, validation, optimization.
You will contribute by:
- Analyzing, interpreting and documenting research data and present to cross-functional teams.
- Assessing, adopting and implementing emerging technologies and experimental techniques that will enhance and enable drug discovery into unprecedented chemical space.
- Working with internal cross-function efforts and collaborate with external CRO.
- Adding to group knowledge and expertise through collaboration and idea exchange with multidisciplinary teams to achieve business results
Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:
- Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or related fields with 2 years (M.S. with 5 year of experiences) of industry research experience in biotech or pharmaceutical settings
- Strong interest and ability of carrying out independent research of in vitro mechanistic biology and drug discovery efforts to evaluate compound SAR and mode of action characterization
- Hands-on experiences in developing biochemical (Western blot, ELISA, enzymatic assays) and biophysical assays (SPR, HTRF/tr-FRET, FP) for protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions.
- Hands-on experiences in plate-based miniaturization, automated liquid handling, and high-throughput assay development are preferred.
- Previous research experience and knowledge in autoimmune and inflammation disease drug discovery is desirable
- Strong and independent skills in data analysis, interpretation, organization, and presentation in a clear manner
- Team player with excellent verbal and written communication and inter-personal skills
