What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Care Assistant - Hope Unit position at UCHealth?

The Hope Unit is a lively, welcoming, and specialized unit consisting of 10 private beds caring for patients experiencing alcohol/substance addiction and withdrawal with a comorbid medical indication for admission. Unique to the Hope Unit, a full-time Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC III) and Behavioral Health Specialists work with the patients. The staff work 12-hour shifts with holiday and weekend requirements and enjoy the convenience of self-scheduling. The experiences that you gain from working with this population and the multidisciplinary team are very unique for an acute care setting.

Summary:
Under the supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care activities.

Work Schedule: Full Time Nights

Responsibilities:
  • Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including but not limited to, monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements and recording intake and output.
  • Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to, bathing, grooming and eating.
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Assists with keeping unit(s) and patient rooms stocked, clean, and orderly. Performs administrative/clerical duties as assigned. May assist with arranging patient transfers.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements:
  • Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum Experience: None required.
BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)

The pay range for this position is: $18.00 - $23.40 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
