Job Posting for Director of International Student Services at UCLA
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of International Programs, the Director of the International Student Services in the International Student Office (ISO) plays a key role for UCLA Extension, serving as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and the Responsible Officer (RO), overseeing the International Student Advisor team providing visa counseling to 1,300 non-immigrant applicants and 2,500 non-immigrant international students enrolled in UCLA Extension certificate and English language programs. The Director and International Student Services are authorized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to certify entrance eligibility by issuing the Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status (Form I-20 or DS-2019) to prospective students and dependents seeking F-1, B-1, B-2, J-1, H-1, H-4, M-1 or M- 2 and dependent visas).
The Director provides strategic vision and administrative leadership in managing the ISO. The primary responsibilities of the Director along with providing overall vision, planning and leadership of and operational oversight International Student Office (ISO) team and works closely with all International Programs units and UCLA Extension to support international student support services. This includes: oversight and serving as the main point of contact for SEVP to ensure immigration compliance (updating and renewing UCLA Extension I-17; supervise, coach, evaluate performance and manage workload of 5 FTE; oversight of ISO day-to-day operations and workflow management; liaise with stakeholders; monitor ISO financial and enrollment records; oversee ad hoc and/or programmed trainings for University staff and/or faculty around support and best practices for international community members; and oversee programmatic support for international students, scholars, and professionals ensuring the ISO provides continuous counseling and advice to students (orientation programming, personal, academic, visas, etc.); serve as the main point of contact for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP); updating the UCLA Extension I-17 (Petition for Approval of School for Attendance by Non-immigrant Student) Form; and filing the institution's official re-certification package; and establish a J visa program. The incumbent will be a driver of cross unit collaborations and developing synergies across UNEX International Programs.

Extensive knowledge of DHS, USCIS, DOS and Department of Labor regulations governing non-immigrant students and professionals (F-1, J-1) and the SEVIS database; and the competence to periodic examination by DHS inspectors and adjudicators.

Minimum of five years to seven years of progressively responsible experience in managing and implementing the policies and practices associated with the responsibilities of an international students' office.

Demonstrated familiarity with and sensitivity to cultural diversity concerns and working with non-native speakers of English.

SEVP Compliance requirement: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent residence to meet federal eligibility requirements to be a PDSO/DSO and RO/ARO.
