What are the responsibilities and job description for the Honors Curricular Coordinator position at UCLA?
The mission of Honors Programs at UCLA is to provide an exceptional educational experience to a diverse group of high-achieving students in an environment that nurtures the growth of the student academically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
Working independently under the general supervision of the Manager for Administrative and Student Services, the Honors Curricular Coordinator oversees the administration of both the Honors Collegium, an interdisciplinary curriculum of Honors seminars for a cohort of high achieving undergraduate students at UCLA, and the Undergraduate Student-Initiated (USIE) Program, an avenue for UCLA undergraduate students to facilitate their own seminars under the close supervision of faculty mentors. The curricular coordinator's primary responsibility is to work closely with the Manager for Administrative & Student Services, the Assistant Dean/Director of Honors, the Honors Faculty Advisory Committee, and the USIE Faculty Advisory Committee in long-term curricular and administrative planning for both the Honors Collegium and USIE and in ensuring the smooth running of their operations on a daily basis. Specific duties include working with Honors management and prospective faculty and student participants in both the Honors Collegium and the USIE yearly calls for course proposals; working with appropriate offices in the university to shepherd approved course proposals from the Course Inventory Management System through Registrar's Scheduling System; working with appropriate offices in the Division to ensure funding and the corresponding instructional-related hiring for both programs; serving as the first and primary point of contact for Honors Collegium and USIE faculty members, providing a variety of assistance as needed; serving as the expert contact by Honors staff and students in technical/specialized items involving both Honors Collegium and USIE courses; working closely with the divisional course coordinator in Honors Collegium course logistics, from scheduling to evaluation; updating resource materials for Honors Collegium and USIE faculty and students, developing publications and promotional materials as needed; managing all in-house files and records pertaining to the Honors Collegium and USIE; and preparing Honors Collegium and USIE reports as needed.
As a member of the Student Affairs Advisors team, the Honors Curricular Coordinator provides advice and information about Honors Programs and its offerings to undergraduate students and various other populations inside and outside the university, in person and via electronic and non-electronic channels; responds to academic policy & regulation queries and advises students on procedural matters such as the filing of petitions, booking appointments with Honors counselors, and consulting other campus units for desired student services; works with the entire Student Affairs Advisors team in group projects; assists in Student Affairs Advisors team communication efforts, including web updates; and participates actively in all Honors events and engagements and in new projects in line with UCLA Honors Programs' revitalized mission.
Performs other duties assigned by the Manager for Administrative and Student Services and the Assistant Dean/Director of Honors.
