Primary program administrator and counselor for the Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (MIMG) major and Student Affairs Office. Advises the Chair, Vice Chair for Undergraduate Studies, and faculty on student and academic affairs issues related to the department's undergraduate program and College undergraduate academic programs. Major duties include counseling of students about major requirements and academic progress; development and implementation of policies and procedures for efficient operation of the departmental counseling office; development and implementation of programs, functions, and publications to increase communication between students and faculty; and providing trend analysis/data compilation to assist in long range programmatic planning. Also responsible for course/classroom scheduling, ordering course texts, commencement coordination, and serving as a member of the department's standing committee for Curriculum and Instruction and Student Awards. Serve as liaison department and students, central and other campus administrative units, and the community. Lead and coordinate TA hires for MIMG courses, help to oversee the TA and Reader budget, and works closely with the CFO to allocate and process tuition, fees, stipends, and fellowships for Ph.D. students working in MIMG research labs.

Required/Preferred

1. Demonstrated skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity to assist students in the resolution of problems; skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds for the purpose of advising students and working with faculty, staff, and the community.

2. Skill in developing procedures to quickly and accurately assess individual student progress while assisting a large number of undergraduate students enrolled in department classes.

3. Detailed knowledge of University and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations as they pertain to degree programs; ability to make judgments based on professional and academic expertise beyond the implementation of administratively proscribed rules, policies, and guidelines.

4. Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities; ability to work independently and follow through on assignments to completion with minimal direction.

5. Demonstrated skill in using on-line or other data sources in the assembly, analysis, presentation, and interpretation of data.

6. Demonstrated skill in tracking and budgeting funds, initiating/submitting timely and accurate financial transactions; ability to assemble, analyze, interpret and present financial or procedural data clearly and concisely.

7. Demonstrated skill in use of SRS, SIS, Counselor's Desktop, FAMS, and other University on-line/web based systems.
