Job Opening Summary

Registers and abstracts patient records with designated categories of neoplasms and conditions in accordance with the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC), Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS) and Hospital Cancer Committee requirements. Responsible for abstracting demographic, diagnostic, treatment, cancer management and survival information from patients' medical records and other sources accurately into the Cancer Registry Database. Edits registry data upon abstract completion, corrects erroneous data and updates as needed. Disseminates data in accordance with professional ethics. May assist with patient follow-up as needed.

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Two years of cancer registry abstracting experience in a Commission on Cancer (CoC)-approved program.
  • Associate's degree-level course work in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • ICD-O coding scheme and data entry/retrieval.
  • Working knowledge of cancer staging systems.
  • Completion of 12-month training in cancer registry may substitute for the two years of experience.


Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or CTR-eligible. CTR to be obtained within 12 months from date of hire.


Shift hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
